Provisioning & dial plan/ digit map

Hello, new zoom admin here, I have succesfully transferred one of my users (out of 30ish) as a test, and after provisioning the phone and porting the number over, everything is working just fine, except that she now has to press "send" after entering the number she wants to call.  She is not happy about the one more click, as you can imagine!! 🙂

I did some looking and found that if I create someting called a dial plan/ digit map, i can turn that feature off.  After digging even further, I don't think I understand exactly  what I need to do.  Has anyone done this before, and if so, might you be able to provide some advice about how to get this done?

I've followed these links, but I just got more confused the further I went...

thanks in advance!

Eliot,

The one that I am currently working on is a Polycom VVX301.  All of our phones are Polycom, various models.

hi mmcclelland,

your user can enter (dial) the number and either (1) pick up the handset or (2) push the speakerphone button and the call will go thru.  alternatively, user can pick up the handset, enter the number and press Dial.

here is a link to poly vvx series desk phones quick start guide.

a little more complicated.  you can use desk phone templates for your hp/poly deskphones.

for assistance in configuring dial plans using templates, i would ask my zoom account team or hp/poly support to help.

thanks,  eliot

Hello @mmcclelland . Would you and your user consider going a different route?

When moving a new system there is always some resistance to change, even for something that is faster and more efficient. I assume there is a compelling reason to say using physical phones, but if not, I will highly recommend  to highlight the huge advantages of using Softphones vs Physical phones.

Here is an idea you can try to "sell" if you like it: Would she be happy if she doesn't have to type the number at all? Just look for a contact by name (not even typing the whole name), select the number and just click to dial? With just a few clicks away, she could use her Zoom App to Remote-Control the Physical phone and get things done...having all her Outlook (or Google) contacts Sync'd and Ready for a Search-n-Dial...even more, for the incoming calls that matches her contact's number, she will see the Contact Name instead of the number.

If this idea is appealing to you and want to demo it to her, here is a good link that shows how to set it up and use it:  https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/4912628206477-Using-desk-phone-call-control

And on this link you will see the list of devices that are compatible with it: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360029698771#h_01FYQ8666ZHPC5DE35EMT3D5QD

I agree with @Eliot: The best way to do what you want to do, might get complicated and potentially create and management overhead/headache, even for the small amount of users you mentioned. I have heard the "hit send/call" argument many times, but if you think about it, that has always been the case for Mobile Phones. Well...now you can talk to the phone and command it to call  😁

Just an idea!
