How to retain meeting links with account consolidation, associated domains & vanity URLs?

The title says it all. I’m planning to consolidate 2 accounts into 1. Both accounts have associated domains and vanity URLs enabled with Zoom, causing them both to have vanity Zoom Meeting links for users. We’re trying to prevent all of the users’ Zoom Meeting links from being broken by the migration from account #1 to account #2. Is this possible?

Hi Petergibbons67,

Thanks for reaching out! When consolidating two accounts, maintaining existing Zoom Meeting links and preventing disruption requires careful planning and coordination. Here's a breakdown of what you need to know and do:

Steps to Prevent Breaking Vanity Links During Consolidation

  1. Contact Zoom Support:
    • Before beginning the consolidation process, reach out to Zoom Support for assistance. Explain the situation, including the domains and vanity URLs associated with each account. Zoom Support can provide guidance and ensure proper handling of the migration.
  2. Primary Domain Transfer:
    • Only one account can have an active vanity URL linked to a primary domain. To consolidate accounts without breaking links, you will need to transfer the domain from account #1 to account #2. Zoom Support must facilitate this process to avoid conflicts and downtime.
  3. Backup Vanity URL:
    • If account #2 already has its own vanity URL, coordinate with Zoom Support to temporarily deactivate it or merge it with the vanity URL from account #1.
  4. Redirect Existing Vanity URLs:
    • Request Zoom Support to create redirects for existing vanity links from account #1 to account #2. This ensures that users’ meeting links will still function after the migration.
  5. Verify and Update Links:
    • After the migration, verify that all links redirect properly and inform users to update their meeting links where necessary. You may also want to update any automated workflows, email signatures, or websites where the vanity links are used.
  6. Domain Ownership Verification:
    • Ensure that you have verified domain ownership for both accounts. This is a critical step for enabling vanity URLs on the consolidated account.

Additional Considerations

  • User Migration Impact: When users from account #1 are moved to account #2, their Zoom Meeting IDs and links may still be tied to the vanity URL of the original account. This is why the domain transfer and redirect are essential.
  • Custom Branding: If both accounts use custom branding, determine which branding should be applied after the consolidation.
  • Timing: Schedule the migration during off-hours or a low-impact time to minimize disruption.
