If I don't use Google SSO to sign in to Zoom, is network communication with "google.com" required?

My organization's proxy device is blocking access to portal sites, including Google, and I am unable to log in, so I check the logs and see that it needs to communicate with "google.com".

Is it normal to have this communication if I'm not signed in with Google SSO?
