Absolutely! Here are step-by-step instructions for optimizing Zoom’s RAM usage when primarily using Zoom Team Chat:

  1. Keep Zoom Updated
  • Open the Zoom desktop app.
  • Click your profile picture (top right).
  • Select Check for Updates.
  • If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it.
  1. Minimize Unused Features
  • Close any open Zoom windows you’re not using (such as Meetings, Whiteboard, or Apps).
  • If you have integrations or add-ons enabled, go to Settings > Apps and disable or sign out of those you don’t need.
  1. Adjust Zoom Settings
  • Open the Zoom app.
  • Click your profile picture > Settings.
  • Go to the Video tab:
    • Uncheck Enable HD.
    • Uncheck Touch up my appearance.
  • Go to the Chat tab:
    • Limit the number of open chat windows.
    • Turn off Play sound when I receive a new message if not needed.
  1. Limit Background Processes
  • Close other apps you’re not using (especially browsers, games, or other communication tools).
  • On Windows: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, right-click unnecessary processes, and select End Task.
  • On Mac: Press Command+Space, type Activity Monitor, and close unnecessary processes.
  • Restart your computer regularly to clear memory.
  1. Use the Web Version
  • Open your browser and go to https://app.zoom.us/.
  • Sign in and use Zoom Team Chat directly from your browser.
  1. Reduce Chat History Loading
  • In Zoom Settings > Chat:
    • Turn off Keep all unread messages on top.
    • Turn off Show message preview.
  • Leave or archive large, inactive chat channels by right-clicking the channel and selecting Leave Channel or Archive.
  1. Check for System Resource Conflicts
  • Make sure your operating system is up to date (Windows Update or Mac Software Update).
  • Update your graphics and system drivers.
  • Run a malware scan using your preferred antivirus software.

Hello @ektrontek1,

To help reduce Zoom app RAM usage, you can try the following suggestions:

  1. Close Unused Features: If you’re not using video, disable your camera and close any unnecessary Zoom windows (like chat, participants, or whiteboard).
  2. Limit Background Processes: Close other applications running on your computer that may be using RAM.
  3. Update Zoom: Make sure you’re using the latest version of the Zoom app, as updates often include performance improvements.
  4. Use Zoom Web: If possible, try using Zoom through your web browser instead of the desktop app, as it may use less RAM.
  5. Lower App Settings: In Zoom settings, turn off hardware acceleration for video and screen sharing, and disable video filters or virtual backgrounds.
  6. Reduce Chat History: If you use Zoom Team Chat, clear old chat history or limit the number of open chat channels.

Let me know if you’d like step-by-step instructions for any of these tips, or if you have more questions!

Thanks, what does it mean?

  • Limit Background Processes

Limiting background processes means closing or stopping other programs and applications running on your computer while you are using Zoom. Many apps running at the same time can use up your computer’s RAM and slow down performance.

Here’s how you can do this:

  • Close any programs you don’t need (like web browsers, email clients, music players, or other chat apps).
  • Check your system tray (the icons near your clock) and right-click to close apps you aren’t using.
  • On Windows, you can open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc), look at the “Processes” tab, and end tasks for programs you don’t need (be careful not to close system processes).
  • On Mac, open Activity Monitor (found in Applications > Utilities), and quit unnecessary apps.

By reducing the number of active programs, your computer can dedicate more RAM and processing power to Zoom, which can help it run more smoothly.
