A guy wanted to information interview with me so I sent him a Zoom link. As he was entering, it showed his name with otter.ai after it then his login. We got talking about where the third person was for the meeting and then I forgot all about it.
I later got an email from otter saying the "live recording" had been posted. WTF? I assumed the guy had recorded it without my permission (I'm in a two-consent state). He called me and said "I have no idea what you're talking about."
So, I now know what otter.ai is and does - makes transcripts and recordings. All well and good. But how the heck did a plug-in (or whatever it is) run when neither of us have ever heard of it or triggered it? The only app I have (and don't even use) is Timer. And how do I prevent this in the future?

It probably joined on behalf of the participant. If the attendee has integrated their Zoom account or email calendar with Otter than the AI bot would be able to join automatically. You can require a waiting room and vet attendees who try to join to ensure only humans are in the meetings. The bots are typically labelled as AI or notetaker. Alternatively there is a Zoom app, Salepager, that lets you verify whether attendees are human before they join your Zoom meeting.

Proposal essays focus on solving problems with well-researched arguments—something that also applies when deciding on tools like Otter.ai for Zoom meetings. Clear communication is essential in both academic writing and virtual discussions, and transcription tools can enhance accessibility and productivity. If you're working on a proposal and need essay proposal example and need guidance on structuring ideas, GradesFixer offers useful resources. Has anyone here found Otter.ai reliable for capturing meeting notes, or do you prefer other transcription tools?
