I conducted a practice webinar session that I did not want to be recorded so I stopped the recording. I then went directly from the practice and started the webinar. Would the "official" webinar have automatically been recorded or would I have had to start the recording again at the beginning?

If you stopped the recording then its not recording. Irrelevant if it is practice session or the actual webinar. I usually have the recording run from the beginning, and then just before we start the live webinar I STOP\START. This will create a new recording file, but it minimizes the risk of forgetting to record. Also you can always TRIM the recording on the cloud so people who view the recording will not see the beginning.
