Annotations drawn from iPad on Windows Screen Share vanish immediately (v7.1.5) - Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else experiencing an issue where annotations drawn from an iPad onto a Windows PC's shared screen keep disappearing instantly?

The Problem:

  • Host: Windows PC (sharing screen, Zoom v7.1.5)

  • Participant: iPad (annotating via View Options > Annotate, latest Zoom app version)

  • Behavior: When an iPad user draws/writes on the shared screen, the strokes vanish/erase immediately. We have to trace over or rewrite the exact same line 3–4 times before the line finally stays visible.

What we've already tried:

  • Confirmed "Vanishing Pen" is NOT turned on.

  • Updated both Windows client (v7.1.5) and iPadOS app to the latest versions.

  • Toggled "Optimize for video clip" on/off during screen share.

  • Toggled Hardware Acceleration settings on the Windows host.

  • Cleared Zoom cache and performed a full re-installation.

  • Tested across multiple iPads—same behavior on all of them.

It seems like a real-time input sync/rendering issue between iPadOS touch input and the Windows desktop app.

Has anyone else encountered this bug recently, or found a temporary workaround? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

We are experiencing the same bug as well.  Lines drawn during Zoom sessions are erased when drawn on iPad screen.  This bug does not happen with PC users drawing lines and seems to be an iPad Zoom App bug only.

To anyone still dealing with this issue:

Just follow these steps outlined by Ryan Chaffee in his response above.

It works!

But it does not work in ipad to roll back to earlier version. If someone know how, please let me know. Thanks

The fix worked for me without rolling my iPad back to an earlier version. I fully removed the Zoom app from BOTH my laptop and my iPad (which removes all associated files), then I reinstalled the regular CURRENT version of Zoom on my iPad, and finally I installed the appropriate 6.5.1 version of Zoom (https://community.zoom.com/meetings-2/zoom-workplace-older-versions-links-to-downloads-16446) on my laptop. I have since refused all prompts to update Zoom on my laptop, and that has fixed the problem. My iPad annotations no longer disappear. :)

Same experience here for a few weeks.

How I use zoom:

I have been using zoom to host lesson with 20 - 30 participants for 5 years. For each lesson, I share a PDF and write with zoom annotation. In recent weeks, my writing keep disappearing so I have to write again and again. It is very frustrating and inefficient. I have two ipad devices, ipad pro and ipad air (just bought last month). Zoom version are all the latest after uninstall and installation. Both have the same issue.

Hello super T,

This sounds more like an annotation rendering/sync issue between the iPad Zoom app and the Windows desktop client rather than the Vanishing Pen setting.

As a workaround, try turning off Screen Share → Advanced → Use hardware acceleration for screen sharing on the Windows host, then completely restart Zoom on both devices. Also, have the iPad participant leave and rejoin the meeting after the host starts sharing.

If the issue still happens, try having the Windows host start a whiteboard share and test iPad annotations there. If annotations stay visible on the whiteboard but disappear on a normal screen share, that would further point to a screen-sharing rendering bug.

Since you've already reproduced it on multiple iPads and tried reinstalling, I'd recommend submitting the issue to Zoom Support with the Windows and iPad app versions, meeting logs, and a short screen recording. That should help Zoom reproduce the v7.1.5 issue.
