Annotations drawn from iPad on Windows Screen Share vanish immediately (v7.1.5) - Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else experiencing an issue where annotations drawn from an iPad onto a Windows PC's shared screen keep disappearing instantly?

The Problem:

  • Host: Windows PC (sharing screen, Zoom v7.1.5)

  • Participant: iPad (annotating via View Options > Annotate, latest Zoom app version)

  • Behavior: When an iPad user draws/writes on the shared screen, the strokes vanish/erase immediately. We have to trace over or rewrite the exact same line 3–4 times before the line finally stays visible.

What we've already tried:

  • Confirmed "Vanishing Pen" is NOT turned on.

  • Updated both Windows client (v7.1.5) and iPadOS app to the latest versions.

  • Toggled "Optimize for video clip" on/off during screen share.

  • Toggled Hardware Acceleration settings on the Windows host.

  • Cleared Zoom cache and performed a full re-installation.

  • Tested across multiple iPads—same behavior on all of them.

It seems like a real-time input sync/rendering issue between iPadOS touch input and the Windows desktop app.

Has anyone else encountered this bug recently, or found a temporary workaround? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a Zoom rendering/sync bug between the iPad and Windows clients. Since it happens on multiple iPads, report it to Zoom Support with a short screen recording and the exact app versions. Testing another Windows host could also help confirm whether it’s client-specific.

I experience the same issue. And please solve it as soon as you can, I teach and annotate on daily bases, and it is using too much time when letters disappear. Id like solution rather than work-around (don’t share entire screen etc), because this method is the fastest for real-time writing.

 

How do I use zoom:

I use Zoom in a way that I connect from my laptop (Windows), then from another Zoom user I connect with my ipad. And then use apple pen and ipad to annotate what I share on my laptop. That way I can in real time write on whatever is on screen and there is no waste of time.  

 

Issue:

Some 10-15ish days ago I started having issues; probably after a recent update.. I started.

once I write on zoom screen (shared screen by zoom, so ipad annotates it). 1. everything I write is written on my ipad screen 2. However it is not all written on the screen of laptop that hosts the meeting 3. The letters that are not written on laptop soon dissappear. For example: I write numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 on my ipad, say 3 and 7 are not shown on the host laptop, and they very soon dissapear from my ipad too, so I have to re-write them, so that the other side can see what I am witting.

Any update for fixing this issue? I am still experiencing the same problem. Since I have to host teaching lesson with zoom on daily bases, it is really difficult to teach.

I haven’t experienced this exact issue, but it definitely sounds like a synchronization or rendering problem between the iPad annotation layer and the Windows client. The fact that it happens across multiple iPads and only works after drawing the same line several times makes it seem unlikely to be a hardware issue.

You’ve already tried most of the obvious troubleshooting steps. It might be worth testing a different Windows version of Zoom or having the iPad join through another network as a temporary workaround. Hopefully Zoom can reproduce the issue and identify the cause.

I am writing in my Ipad I faced the issue some of the words are write vanishing and changes is shape i require zoom to teach online i have to once again write that word please make solution of its …..We pay for premium packs we expect high quality from zoom

Just adding another data point of another user experiencing this issue.  Very frustrating as part of the reason I bought the iPad and Apple Pencil was to facilitate better, more detailed annotations in Zoom than I could achieve with a mouse.

As others noted, the issue wasn’t consistent.  The majority of the time the annotation would render on the iPad but disappear after a second or so and never have been visible to other users.  One out of, roughly, 20 times however, the annotation would stick around and be visible to the other users.

Please fix this issue. We have the same. Drawing on the ipad when on a Zoom call and sometimes notes and annotations disappear. This is really poor and affecting our users daily. Zoom, HELP!

As a teacher who depends on annotating on Zoom slides for virtual students this is a huge issue.  I am confirming that I am seeing the same issues using Zoom Version: 7.1.5 (84650) on Mac as the host sharing the screen and annotating with an iPad running Version 7.1.5 (37198) using an Apple Pencil.  Some annotations appear on both the ipad and Mac but others will just not show up on the Mac.

We are experiencing the same bug as well with our iPad users.  Lines they draw in current Zoom meetings are being erased after they draw them.  This does not happen with users on the PC, it just appears to be an iPad app issue.
