Annotations drawn from iPad on Windows Screen Share vanish immediately (v7.1.5) - Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else experiencing an issue where annotations drawn from an iPad onto a Windows PC's shared screen keep disappearing instantly?

The Problem:

  • Host: Windows PC (sharing screen, Zoom v7.1.5)

  • Participant: iPad (annotating via View Options > Annotate, latest Zoom app version)

  • Behavior: When an iPad user draws/writes on the shared screen, the strokes vanish/erase immediately. We have to trace over or rewrite the exact same line 3–4 times before the line finally stays visible.

What we've already tried:

  • Confirmed "Vanishing Pen" is NOT turned on.

  • Updated both Windows client (v7.1.5) and iPadOS app to the latest versions.

  • Toggled "Optimize for video clip" on/off during screen share.

  • Toggled Hardware Acceleration settings on the Windows host.

  • Cleared Zoom cache and performed a full re-installation.

  • Tested across multiple iPads—same behavior on all of them.

It seems like a real-time input sync/rendering issue between iPadOS touch input and the Windows desktop app.

Has anyone else encountered this bug recently, or found a temporary workaround? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

It is incredibly frustrating when an update breaks a vital teaching tool, but rolling back Zoom to an older version was the perfect workaround to restore your regular pen tool. I just rolled back on my Mac and the issue is fixed. No need to rollback on my iPad. I use screen annotation during virtual lessons.

Same bug as well. I hope they get this fix quickly. It is causing a major disruption for us. It is really causing me to think about maybe using something other than ZOOM.

I’m a virtual tutor and have been struggling with this same issue for several weeks. I uninstalled Zoom and reinstalled an older version (thank you to everyone who suggested that!), which seems to be a good workaround when I’m sharing from my computer and annotating on my iPad.

However, some of my students share their screens with me, and I’m still experiencing the same issue with my annotations disappearing when I annotate on their shared screens. I’m assuming this may be related to their newer versions of Zoom, since I obviously can’t control which version they’re using.

Has anyone found any other workarounds for this? This is a major issue for me because annotating on students’ screens is a big part of how I teach virtually.

Zoom, please keep us updated on when you expect this issue to be fixed! It’s beginning to significantly impact the quality of my work, which is especially disappointing given how much I’m paying for a Pro account each year.

I’m totally with Madeleine in what she writes above! I try to work around the annotation-problem by using an old computer with a previous version (6.1.11). Even though my iPad runs 7.1.5 the problem does not exist as long as I share this old-version-computer. BUT when my students (with 7.1.5 presumably) share their screens and I try to write on them, even more (it seems) of the annotations disappear ...compared to when I share my own 7.1.5-version-computer.

Zoom, please fix this problem soon.

(And as a side note to the zoom developers: the annotations in 6.1.11 look much nicer than in newer versions. I had forgotten how great annotations used to be in zoom) It’s kind of pressure sensitive and italic. Can we get that back? ...then you could cut back on all the fancy AI-tools and floating emojis.)
