Annotations drawn from iPad on Windows Screen Share vanish immediately (v7.1.5) - Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else experiencing an issue where annotations drawn from an iPad onto a Windows PC's shared screen keep disappearing instantly?

The Problem:

  • Host: Windows PC (sharing screen, Zoom v7.1.5)

  • Participant: iPad (annotating via View Options > Annotate, latest Zoom app version)

  • Behavior: When an iPad user draws/writes on the shared screen, the strokes vanish/erase immediately. We have to trace over or rewrite the exact same line 3–4 times before the line finally stays visible.

What we've already tried:

  • Confirmed "Vanishing Pen" is NOT turned on.

  • Updated both Windows client (v7.1.5) and iPadOS app to the latest versions.

  • Toggled "Optimize for video clip" on/off during screen share.

  • Toggled Hardware Acceleration settings on the Windows host.

  • Cleared Zoom cache and performed a full re-installation.

  • Tested across multiple iPads—same behavior on all of them.

It seems like a real-time input sync/rendering issue between iPadOS touch input and the Windows desktop app.

Has anyone else encountered this bug recently, or found a temporary workaround? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

We've seen similar behavior in a few meetings, especially when iPad users annotate on a Windows host. Since you've already ruled out Vanishing Pen and tried the usual troubleshooting steps, it sounds more like a client synchronization or rendering bug than a configuration issue.

One thing you could try is having the Windows host disable and re-enable annotation during the meeting, or test with a different screen-sharing method (sharing a specific window instead of the entire desktop). If possible, also test with an older Zoom desktop version to see whether the issue was introduced in a recent update.

If the problem occurs across multiple iPads and persists after reinstalling both clients, I'd recommend collecting Zoom logs from both the Windows PC and an affected iPad and submitting them to Zoom Support. That will help determine whether it's a known issue with the current release. Hopefully Zoom addresses it in an upcoming update if it's a widespread bug.

We're encountering the same issue (New within the last week) but don't have a solution.  Our organization primarily uses zoom for the markup features during online meetings-both internal and external- and many of the firm leaders use ipads for markup during meetings. Zoom has become unusable for me because of this glitch.

I have the same issue here, and tried every single steps suggested.
Please escalate this issue to zoom technical team to solve asap, as i think they have to do something about compatiblity Ipad user to annotade in the updated zoom meetings, check from the input signal we write on screen on the ipad, can record and display on the zoom meeting.
PLEASE SOLVE THIS asap
BEcause i am using it for daily teaching, it will affect our daily working

I’m having similar issues to you all.  Ever since the last update a couple weeks ago, when I share a PDF and try to annotate on it, random letters and marks will disappear and I will have to rewrite them a bunch of times to stay.  I can’t seem to reach out to an actual Zoom human, and the Zoom virtual chat bot suggestions were all tried and failed to help.  If anyone, human preferably, has advice on how to fix this problem, I would love to hear it.

This is happening to me too, as a Zoom Tutor in math it’s incredibly frustrating to have numbers and signs disappearing. I’ve tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling changing the features . I know it’s not my Apple Pencil because I can use the whiteboard feature perfectly  it’s when I share my screen desktop or chrome window, where it doesn’t work.

Experiencing the same issue here.  I’ll add that we notice the skipping occurs most when drawing straight lines as opposed to curves.  Very frustrating!

I have this report:

Subject: Bug Report: iPad pen annotations disappear instantly during screen share (Regression in v7.1.5)

Device Setup:

Host/Sharing Device: Mac Pro / Huawei Windows LaptopWriting

Device: iPad with Apple Pencil (Zoom Annotation / Whiteboard feature)

Description of the Issue:

I am a teacher who relies heavily on Zoom daily to write out solutions for my students. Since updating to the latest Zoom version 7.1.5, I am experiencing a critical bug where my iPad pen annotations disappear mid-sentence while I am sharing my screen. The signal is either dropping or not being properly displayed on the screen share/whiteboard.This issue did not exist in the previous version (v7.1.0), where the writing feature worked perfectly. This is a severe regression that is causing massive disruption to daily online classes and teaching workflows.

Requested Action:

Please escalate this bug to your top management and technical QA team immediately.

Please verify the core code differences between versions 7.1.0 and 7.1.5 regarding screen share annotations and stylus signal reception. A regression in v7.1.5 is causing a critical buffer desync, which prematurely deletes digital ink. We need your engineering team to identify the root cause of this input drop and deploy a hotfix immediately. Our students are falling behind in their lessons because teacher explanations and math workings disappear halfway through being written.

While AI tools are helpful, this specific issue requires human QA testing to replicate and fix.

Please have a human support representative look into this and provide an update as soon as possible.

Thank you.

try this:

  1. Disable hardware acceleration on the Mac (then restart Zoom)
  • Zoom Workplace (Mac) → Settings/Preferences → Video (and/or Share Screen / Advanced, depending on version)
  • Turn off any hardware acceleration options (video rendering / sending / screen sharing), then quit Zoom and reopen.

Very cool that this fix worked for you!

I rolled back to 6.5.1 on my MacBook but, as far as I know, it is not possible to roll back on my iPad. This problem still persists for me.

Can you please explain exactly what you did?
