Where is my recording ?

Hello

Can someone help me please - I had a zoom meeting that I was the host and I recorded it and I cannot find it - before it would be emailed to me and now nothing - not in my recordings & transcript tab either. Have I lost it ?

Hi, everyone!

This is a long-running thread with a variety of questions about locating recordings, and the original post from @Kazazis25 was over a year ago.  I’m going to attempt so summarize a few things to help everyone out, but can’t really address everyone’s specific issues at this point.

First of all, if you have a Licensed (paid) account and feel sure you should have had a recording but don't see it, creating a Support Ticket is the best way to get individual help with your specific situation.

Next: It’s important to remember that Cloud Recordings are stored on the Cloud and are processed by Zoom before making them available; and Local/Computer Recordings are stored on your computer, and processed by your computer before being ready to view.  If you have looked in the Cloud Recordings (https://zoom.us/recording/) and it’s not there, check to see if it was mistakenly made as a Local Recording.

Many people swear they started a recording, or that they have the recording start automatically.  My experience is that people often turn off the recording if they arrive early so they don’t “waste recording space”, only to fail to remember to turn it on. Make a mental note to look for the little cloud recording icon in the upper right of your Zoom Meeting/Webinar screen!  The recording icon is also present in the Participants window next to every Host and Cohost.

@StevePA’s comment that the recording is stopped for an “unknown reason” happens all too often when inexperienced Zoom users are given Cohost permission and go “button exploring”, but can also occasionally happen if a Host loses connectivity without a Co-Host online.  I’ve seen this before where Zoom then stops the recording because there’s nobody there to “own the recording process” (not own the recording itself, but nobody there to monitor and stop the recording if there’s an issue).  And when the only Host is able to rejoin the meeting, the Cloud recording has stopped.  (I’m not sure this behavior still exists, but I know I’ve seen it a few years ago.)  Always check your recording status if you are disconnected and reconnected.

Also, if you restart the recording or it automatically restarts, you will get two separate sets of cloud recordings.  You may have to click the “next recording” button on the viewer to see the earlier recording, but normally they are both there.

My buddy @YaBoiB is right, though: Send the Meeting ID (and any information you have about what might have caused the issue) in a support ticket immediately!  On the rare occasion where there really is a Zoom glitch in Cloud Recording processing, the original composite files are retained only for a few days, and can be re-processed to generate the individual files from the composite stream file.  I’ve had this occur once in 5 years, and the trick is to make your request ASAP.

If you don’t have phone support, and your recording is important to you, take the time to send a support ticket with complete information.  (And I shouldn’t have to say this, but I will anyway: Don’t whine, just stick to the facts.)

@Barbara Mattson, normally a good rule of thumb is that the processing time normally takes Zoom at least one and a half times as long as the recording duration.  If you had a one hour meeting, expect one and a half hours before getting the notice that it’s ready.  If you had a four-hour webinar, expect 6 hours… but it’ll probably be less.  There’s a lot of processing going on, and thousands of recordings being processes every hour!

@Land Covenantors Victoria: Sounds to me like someone changed the “Automatically Record Meeting” setting, or that someone different is now running the meeting and they never had it set in the first place.

Hopefully I covered most of the bases there!

My recording (from yesterday) is also not showing up and I double checked and indeed the "automatically record" box was checked.

I manually checked the "record to computer" box and the recordings didn't show up.  Anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @Charlotte Branch! To view only your Zoom recordings, please go to your Recordings page:

https://zoom.us/recording

Once signed in, you’ll see a list of all your cloud recordings. If you record to your computer, you can find local recordings by opening the Zoom desktop app, clicking on “Meetings,” and then selecting the “Recorded” tab.

Hello @StevePA,

Can you reach out to our technical support team, you can provide them with the meeting ID and they can check the backend to see what might have happened to your recording. If you cannot make contact with the technical support team. DM me with the meeting ID and I can check it for you.

Hello @Barbara Mattson ,

That is dependent on how long the recording was. After a meeting has ended the recording will start processing. This is true for cloud recordings and local recordings. If the meeting was, say, an hour long then that recording is going to take longer to process than a 10 minute meeting. If you log into your account and go to the recordings tab on the left hand side, you should be able to see if the recording is still processing or has finished.

I did that.  It doesn’t show any recordings for my meeting yesterday.  I know I hit the record button because someone reminded me to .

If the meeting was recorded, check whether it was a local recording or cloud recording. Local recordings are usually saved in the Zoom folder on your computer, while cloud recordings appear in the Recordings section of your Zoom account. Also check your spam folder in case the email notification went there.

I handle 2 Zooming accounts for 2 different organisations. I am now finding that the the recordings for the meetings are no longer being saved on the Cloud. The brief transcripts are there but nothing else???

@Land Covenantors Victoria check your account recording settings and also check the user affected recording settings. Remember, if you do not lock your account settings then users can change their personal settings to whatever they like, so if the user affected did not enable local or cloud recording on the meeting, then it will not be recorded unless the host clicks on the recording button and then chooses whether they want the recording to be local or cloud based. Also, in your admin dashboard (if you have one) you can look at the meeting ID and there is a red recording icon that should indicate whether a meeting was recorded or not. If you feel that the recording button was clicked by the host and the recording did not process, fill out a support ticket and the Technical Support Engineers can look into the meeting ID and see if the meeting was actually recorded or not and they can dig deeper into whether Zoom’s recording server processed the recording properly or not.

Check whether the meeting was recorded locally or to the cloud. If it was a cloud recording, it may still be processing or could be in the Trash. If it's not in either location, contact Zoom Support with your meeting ID they may be able to help recover it.

Hi! I wouldn't take it for granted that it's lost yet. There are a couple of things you can do: If you recorded **locally** search the folder that Zoom recorded to (usually your Documents folder, but can be changed in the settings). If you recorded to the cloud, log in to your Zoom Web account and view the recordings there. Be sure to log in using the same account that hosted the meeting, too. Cloud recordings may take a little longer to complete if the meeting was just recently held, before the video is available or the email is sent out. If you are still not able to find it after visiting those places, you can try contacting Zoom Support with the meeting ID to check if they can find the recording. Hope you are able to restore it!
