To get a transcript without recording, you need to use automated captions (live transcription) during the meeting. In Zoom, the transcript is accessed from the captions/CC controls while the meeting is running (it’s a “view/save captions” type workflow, not a post-meeting transcript like cloud recording).

If you turned on captions but never saw any transcript options, the most common causes are:

• Automated captions aren’t enabled at the account/group/host level, so you can turn on “captions” but you won’t get live transcription features.
• You’re not the host (or don’t have permission) to start automated captions / allow participants to save them.
• You’re using a client/platform that doesn’t show the same caption/transcript controls (try the latest Zoom Workplace desktop client).

I used to be able to save transcripts after the meetings end. For some reason, it doesn't give me the option to save transcripts anymore, it has been like that for the last couple weeks.

I was also used to record meeting on my PC and still had the possibility to see a transcript file, for which I asked Zoom to summarize in a short or long format. This went well till the end of June 2026. 

I had another meeting with customers yesterday and wanted to run these steps but alas, there was no transcript visible. 
Is it now mandatory to save the recording “in the cloud” and not locally to be able to get a transcript?
