Original Sound for Musicians Toggle Gone

Hi All,

In a recent update, I noticed that I can no longer toggle the original sound for musicians option on the top of the main screen.  I can change it completely in audio settings, but that's a pain if I want to go back and forth during a meeting.  For instance, I teach piano over Zoom.  When I want to play something for a student, I turn original sound on.  But if I'm typing a student's notes, I don't want the clacking of the keyboard to be heard.  So before, it was really easy to toggle on the main screen.  Now it seems you can only change it in audio settings.

Anyone else having an issue with this or has found a solution like a shortcut?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @Pianonmanross.

Big change! Original Sound for Musicians no longer needs to be activated each meeting. Go down to the caret ^ by the Audio button and see the ability to change sound settings there. Whatever you set should be persistent between sessions.

I have been using Zoom to lead meditation and yoga classes full-time since the start of the pandemic. I need access to the original sound toggle button in order to ring bells and do periods of chanting at the end of class without the hassle of having to go into Audio settings to locate the menu item each time. It's one thing to have to tolerate the relentless addition of new features that crowd the original interface (don't get me going on the ✨ AI Assistant ✨ harassment), but now to have a feature that I actually make use of *subtracted* is especially irritating. Not a happy customer.

I was surprised and slightly annoyed with this update like everyone else. I just found that the easier path to turn on and off is to click the upward narrow at the bottom menu where it says AUDIO ^ - then click Original Sound For Musicians and when you want to go back to default, you click Noise Removal (default) - it's 1 more click than before but easier than going into Settings > Audio etc... - I do prefer the way it was before, on the screen at the top, easy to see, just one click, so please Zoom return to what it was! Anyway, hope this helps!

Zoom support - please change this back to allow us to toggle original sound for musicians on/off on the meeting screen like it was before. Why did you change this? I use it for my business just like many others on this thread.

Like many others I find this change to be a significant setback. It has permanently broken my workflow because the "accepted solution" does not work for my use case.

I use Zoom on a Mac and I use AppleScript to toggle Original Sound for Musicians on and off. Zoom doesn't really support AppleScript (it would be great if it did), but many apps, like Zoom, can be scripted to some degree anyway using "System Events" to access items using accessibility APIs. The old way put a toggle button for "Original sound for musicians" in the window that the Accessibility APIs could "click" on single command. However, the Audio button in the window controls isn't always visible and when it is not visible you can't script it. You can get around this problem in Settings by choosing "Meetings and webinars" turn on "Keep meeting controls visible" in the controls section. But it really doesn't help because the temporary menu that opens is completely invisible to the accessibility APIs so it cannot be scripted. Hence there is no way for me to use the new 2-click "shortcut" to access this setting.

Could I change the script to do this the long way by opening Zoom settings, select the audio section, select the audio mode I want and close the window? Perhaps. However I am using Zoom in the background and Zoom always puts its Settings window in front of everything else and I don't want this flashing up in the middle of a meeting every time I use the script to switch from a person speaking to some sort of musical presentation, or vice-versa.

Please either change it back the way it was or put these commands on actual menus that are available to the accessibility APIs.

In the meantime I am trying to find a way to go back to Zoom version 6.5.12.

Here here! I am in multiple online songwriting groups. You only want this on when you are playing, because it can cause echoes. Not having a 1-click toggle is AWFUL. I don't see how anyone thought this was a good idea. Ugh.

I hope they fix this! I am a music therapist and deliver virtual sessions online and constantly need to change original sound on and off when clients share or when I'm playing live. Flow is everything and lots of time is wasted with awkward silence while I have to do extra steps to change the settings. Fingers crossed!

I’ll add my voice to the chorus of complaints here. I broadcast church meeting weekly. The toggle was incredibly important as we switch often between music and speaking. Please fix this!

As an audio and broadcast engineer I can tell you that computer audio can be very complicated. There are numerous ways to eliminate background sounds and still maintain high quality broadcasted audio. Motion picture, sporting events, and TV broadcasts (which I have done audio for) have ways to control audio noise. Even podcasts have simple ways to control it. Most of it is done with mic selection and some of it is done with gating, parametric filters, or expanders. There is free software for controlling (OBS Studio) and less sensitive dynamic mics are often used. I have even done full spectrum audio in a helicopter with an announcer where you clearly hear him and the blades in proper balance but no wind. I manage Zoom for 7 congregations every Sunday where the podium mic is also used to pickup music and singing and find that original sound gives the best speech quality. So you may want to consider making some changes to improve voice and music audio quality. You can do some research to find solutions or consult with local experts for assistance.

Good tips! I am also using OBS for broadcasting church meetings. I was using OBS scripting with AppleScript to change Zoom's audio settings when I change scenes and that is broken with the latest version of Zoom. I have reverted to version 6.5.12 until I can find another way to do this. I can see that using replacing Zoom's audio filters with some in OBS could do what I need. The biggest obstacle is that I am not using OBS audio because the OBS virtual camera doesn't support audio. I know there are virtual audio cable solutions and while they are common for Windows platforms I haven't found one that sounds promising for Macs, though I admit haven't looked in a while. Any recommendations?

Another one - I cannot understand why the toggle mode was turned off. I need to be able to switch between modes during a session. Please turn the toggle mode back on.

The one click Original Sound toggle is also key for me.  The Audio Settings^ (click, move mouse, click), though painful, can work in some cases.  But there are others where it is too slow.  Need the one click.  How to regress to 6.5.12 (mentioned above) until this is fixed/restored?  (Hopefully quickly so am not down-level too long)

I find the new method for Original Sound to be convenient to start meetings, but VERY inconvenient for toggling during meetings. I use Zoom for worship service streaming. Since the change, it seems that switching to "default" (Original Sound Off) mode changes the gain as in the past, which is sometimes good/necessary for speakers away from a microphone or to suppress background/reverberation , BUT when switching BACK to Original Sound, the gain never returns to the original "Original Sound" level and I have to play with faders on the mixing board to get sound back under control - otherwise the audio sounds overdriven to the point of distortion. Has anyone else experienced this? In the past I found I had to make minimal if any level adjustments when toggling, but now I am seeing -10-15dB changes required to keep dynamic music (e.g. organ, soloist...) from distorting. The gain level of the "default" setting also seems to be higher than before the update.

Hi Zoom Community members!

Thank you for the detailed feedback here. While Original Sound for Musicians is now persistent and can be switched via the Audio  menu, it’s clear many users who need to toggle frequently during live sessions are finding this change disruptive. We’ve shared this feedback internally and encourage submitting product feedback via the Submit Feedback process, so it reaches the product team directly.

Thank you!

+1. I need to be able to toggle quickly between the two modes multiple times in a meeting. The new set up is cumbersome. Please bring back the toggle.
