Audio Cuts Out Intermittently

I'm hoping someone can advise me on how to troubleshoot an audio issue.

I have an issue where every so often my Zoom audio will cut out for 1-3 seconds although the video continues. While not frequent, it means I can miss key pieces of information.

(a) This is not a standard connectivity issue -- the video continues without lagging or interruption

(b) This is not a standard speaker/audio source issue -- it lasts only a few seconds and it does not occur on other programs, only on Zoom

(c) This is not an issue with the speaker's audio -- it occurs across a range of meetings I'm in and I'm the only one who experiences the loss

What can I do to troubleshoot?

Since the video continues without interruption, this doesn't sound like a typical network connectivity issue. A few things you could try:

  • Update Zoom to the latest version and make sure your audio drivers are up to date.

  • In Zoom > Settings > Audio, disable Enable Original Sound (if enabled) and test with Automatically adjust microphone volume turned on or off to see if it makes a difference.

  • If you're using Bluetooth headphones, try a wired headset or your computer's built-in speakers to rule out brief Bluetooth dropouts.

  • Close any background applications that may be using the audio device or consuming system resources.

  • In Windows, disable any audio enhancements for your playback device and set the power plan to High Performance.

  • If possible, test the same meetings using the Zoom web app or another device. This can help determine whether the issue is specific to the Zoom desktop client or your computer.

If the problem persists, it would also be helpful to know your operating system, Zoom version, audio device (USB, Bluetooth, or built-in), and whether the issue started after a recent Zoom or OS update.

I had the same thing happen and I discovered that my issue had to do with having certain apps open on my laptop during a Zoom call (namely Quicktime Player). I have a Mac and use Bose headphones, for reference.

I apologize in advance if this isn’t helpful for your situation!
