Audio Cuts Out Intermittently

I'm hoping someone can advise me on how to troubleshoot an audio issue.

I have an issue where every so often my Zoom audio will cut out for 1-3 seconds although the video continues. While not frequent, it means I can miss key pieces of information.

(a) This is not a standard connectivity issue -- the video continues without lagging or interruption

(b) This is not a standard speaker/audio source issue -- it lasts only a few seconds and it does not occur on other programs, only on Zoom

(c) This is not an issue with the speaker's audio -- it occurs across a range of meetings I'm in and I'm the only one who experiences the loss

What can I do to troubleshoot?

I have the problem with choppy audio and noticed that it happens whenever my CPU utilization goes to 100%. It seems to be a problem with the audio not being prioritized correctly above low priority tasks. I had this problem a couple years ago, it went away, and now it's back.

as a temporary solution - closing other windows might help?

Yes, closing other windows helps, but with hardly anything else running (even stopping as many background tasks as I can) the problem still occurs.

Was there a conclusion to this topic? Any solutions? I am also struggling with the same issue for last several months. It's just frustrating to see audio going in and out for a few seconds intermittently and sometimes with the message - "unstable internet connection" I checked with my ISP and internet is fine.. I am getting over 200 mbps download and 50 mpbps upload.

Just started experiencing this issue in my latest call. I quit Zoom and entered the call again, and the issue persisted. I tried different speakers as well, to no avail. I'm on Zoom Version 6.4.6 (53970), which is the latest version.

As suggested in one of the comments, I left my microphone on for the remainder of the call and didn't run into this issue. However, the call didn't last too long since I started testing this, so I will need to test again on a future call.

Hello, everyone. I'm also having this same issue on a Windows 11 machine.

I'm experiencing the same conditions as the original poster:

I'm experiencing an intermittent Zoom audio cutout (1-3 seconds) while video remains unaffected.

  • This is not a general connectivity or speaker problem.
    • Video stream is uninterrupted.
    • The issue is exclusive to Zoom.
    • I am the only one affected in meetings.
  • This leads to me missing crucial details, especially on client calls. This bit is concerning for me.

A permanent fix is greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone. I’m experiencing the exact same issue on my Windows 11 machine. Just checking in about a month after the latest reply - is there a more permanent solution or update to this?

I have same issue - if there is no solution will have to sadly use another platform - would be very grateful for a solution that stops this from happening as it makes meetings impossible, thanks

The issue seems to be (at least for me) when I connect to an external bluetooth speaker.  The default windows speaker (which is crappy) on my HP Elitebook, will work fine but group says my microphone is terrible which is why I use the bluetooth.  But the bluetooth will cut out like 3-5 seconds every 10 min or so and sound coming out is garbled or sounds like a bad connection on the other end and then goes back to normal.  I've updated Windows drivers since going to a new laptop and Windows 11.  New Zoom installation, etc etc.  Updated bluetooth drivers etc etc.  Never had this problem on my old laptop with the same speaker and same ISP.  Has to be something with the new Zoom workspace currently 6.5.6

It happens to me in every single call. But never in Google Meets or Teams. I use the last version of Zoom (6.6.10.69071) on mac book pro (brand new, updated), with Bluetooth headphones (Bose QuietComfort 35 II).

Any update on the ticket?
