Using Zoom for Tutoring

I am looking to move to Zoom calls/whiteboards for my online tutoring business.  I want to subscribe to the Pro plan for the calls and add the Whiteboard option (rather than the full Business plan) so that I can have more than 3 boards. I want to be able to create multiple boards as templates that I will copy to individual students copies as and when they are needed. This would mean that each student may have more than 3 boards. As my students will be using a Basic plan does that mean that they will only be able to access a max of 3 boards.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

I also tutor through zoom. I think students have access to all whiteboards since you are creating them (but I might be wrong).

My comment though is that I find the whiteboards very loose, like random pieces of paper. For now I prefer to use OneNote and simply share my screen, because I can organize it like a notebook, with pages, dividers, folders... 

If you want your students to interact, you can share a link to OneNote that is editable on a browser.

However, instead of paying two very expensive subscriptions for the basic use I give to them, I wish zoom whiteboards started working in the same organization system of OneNote.
Highly appreciate if anyone has better tips to make use of the whiteboards.

Thanks so much for the response, I think you're right about the student access to whiteboards (see next reply). I understand what you mean about OneNote, but I quite like the 'big piece of paper' way of working for whiteboards. My issue now with Zoom whiteboards is that it might just be too complicated for students - too many options and ways to navigate. Also I can't seem to find a way for a student to dial in to a call on one device (eg a phone) and then have the whiteboard on another (eg an ipad) - the whiteboard seems automatically fire up on every device that joins. 

 

All that said, I think the best way is to try it and see how it all works - the tip for OneNote could well be a solution. Thanks again.

Regarding your question: if the copies you create for students belong to you (i.e., you are the owner, not the students), then students will be able to access your whiteboards, and you can grant them editing permissions.

The limit of 3 editable whiteboards on the Basic plan means that a Basic user can only create 3 editable whiteboards of their own. However, they can still collaborate on whiteboards created by others, such as those created by a Pro user, as long as they are granted the appropriate permissions.

Thanks so much for the reply, that makes sense and is what I'd hoped.

 

I have a secondary issue (hope it's OK to post on here). I would like my students to access the board on a different device than the call, so for example they can see me on a phone, but then access the whiteboard using an tablet or a laptop/graphics tables. I can happily access the board without being on the call, but the device that joins the call (the phone) automatically fires up the whiteboard and I don't seem to be able to close it down. I hope that makes sense!
