Dheeraj Sudan and Meenu Hinduja-Can I upload a previously saved whiteboard back into Zoom?

Hi Everyone, I'm Meenu Hinduja and my husband Dheeraj Sudan, run a business. I have a whiteboard that was saved earlier and I’m wondering if there’s a way to upload or re-import it into Zoom Whiteboard so I can continue editing or sharing it.

Has anyone tried this or found a workaround? Would appreciate any suggestions or best practices — thanks!

Hi @mhindujadheerajsudan -

Unfortunately, you cannot directly import a previously saved whiteboard file back into Zoom Whiteboard with editable objects. Once a whiteboard is exported (for example, as a PNG, PDF, or JSON file), it cannot be reopened in Zoom as an editable board.

If you want to continue working with or sharing the content from a saved whiteboard, here are your best options:

1️⃣ Copy and Paste Between Boards

  • Open both the original whiteboard and a new whiteboard in Zoom.
  • Use Select All (Ctrl/Cmd + A) or drag to select specific objects.
  • Copy (Ctrl/Cmd + C) and paste (Ctrl/Cmd + V) into the new board.
  • This preserves editable shapes, text, and sticky notes.

2️⃣ Use Templates (Zoom Whiteboard Plus)

  • If you have Zoom Whiteboard Plus, you can save a page as a template.
  • Apply that template to new boards whenever you need to reuse the same layout or content.

3️⃣ Upload an Image or Document

  • If you only have an exported image or PDF version of the whiteboard, you can still upload it as a background or reference:
    • Open a new whiteboard.
    • Click the Upload tool (paperclip icon).
    • Insert the image or document file.
    • You can then annotate or draw over it, though the original elements won’t be editable.

Hope this helps!
