Raised Hand Timestamps in Zoom Webinar

Could we add and display a timestamp showing when each attendee raises their hand in a Zoom for Government webinar.

This would help City Clerk staff manage public comment requests in the order received and provide greater transparency during public meetings. Ideally, the timestamp would be visible to hosts and co-hosts and included in webinar reports for audit purposes.

    Hello @Irma Isayan,

    Welcome to the Zoom Community!

Zoom for Government webinar reporting doesn’t currently provide a built-in way to add/display a timestamp for the exact moment each attendee clicks Raise Hand, nor to include “raise hand time” as a field in webinar reports.

What you can do today is pull the standard webinar reports (e.g., participant/attendee reports) for auditing and recordkeeping. Steps are here: How to generate webinar reports.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the report does not include the raise hand timestamp because ZoomGov does not track that information.

    Hi, @Irma Isayan.

I’m not a Zoom employee, so i don’t speak for Zoom, but I’ve been in the Zoom space long enough to have a sense of what’s possible, what’s difficult, and what’s impossible. What you’ve asked for clearly fits in the middle group, in my opinion.

The issue here is that it would be somewhat difficult to push that information onto the Participants window without overcrowding other information, and the use case for doing this is likely pretty small. The raised hands remain in order from the longest hand up at the top to the most recent hand up at the bottom, and this order is sufficient for the vast number of organizations.

What would be possible is for a developer to create an add-on app that would track and maintain a list of hands raised with times throughout the meeting, with an ability to view during the meeting and download afterward. If this is something you’re interested in, let us know. One of the other MVP/Super Champs is a developer and might be interested in this request.

Thank you, Ray. The goal is to provide an audit trail showing whether a hand was raised before or after the Mayor announces that public comment is closed. Since it's not practical to immediately disable Allow Raise Hand, attendees can still raise their hands afterward. A timestamp next to the raised hand (or at least in a report) would allow us to verify whether the request was timely. Today, our phone system provides call timestamps for audit purposes, but moving to Zoom removes that capability unless the raise hand time is tracked. Does that make sense?

    hi @Irma Isayan ,

Within the Zoom App SDK, there is a function which can be activated whenever a hand is raised.
I am not a Zoom employee but a developer champion, and I already have an app that prevents people from raising or lowering their hands to disrupt.
We can develop marketplace apps for this sort of thing

I am currently asking for suggestions on what we could also do around hands raised.

    Your request is something we are looking at offering;
I posted this earlier and welcome your comments.

    All the best
