No sound through headphones

Can anyone suggest a solution to my problem please? I get no sound at all through headphones during Zoom meetings, on a Lenovo T490 laptop with Windows 10. Video audio is good, and music too, and the laptop speakers work ok. My headphones are cheap JVC ones with a lead which I plug into the audio socket on the laptop (there’s no microphone socket, so no chance of me putting it in the wrong one by mistake). Today I uninstalled and reinstalled Zoom Workspace, so it must be the latest version. I have looked through all the Audio settings, nothing seems to be incorrect (and the microphone is enabled by default).

I would like to buy some new Bluetooth headphones, but I am frightened that after spending money I will still have the same problem.

Edit to me question above:

  1. There was no such problem listening to Zoom webinars with the same headphones on my previous laptop, a Panasonic CF-MX4 with Windows 10.
  2. I have had the Lenovo laptop since mid-October, since when I have participated in 5 webinars, and I honestly don’t recall having this problem for the earlier couple of ones.

Be sure that the “headphones” (with ear pieces only, no mic) are actually selected in Zoom. When you say the microphone is enabled by default do you mean the “headphones” mic or the laptop mic? If the “headphones” has a mic then the “audio socket” will also include that mic, in which case the “headphone” mic also needs to be selected in Zoom rather than the laptop mic in order for the headphone ear pieces to receive audio. If the “headphones” plug is TRRS (tip, ring, ring, sleeve) then it has a mic, if the plug is only TRS it does not have a mic.

Thank you. I am referring to plain, simple headphones, no mike, and my laptop only has a headphone socket, not one for mic.

I think I saw your information when I was searching for a solution. Let me say emphatically that I have not seen a way to select headphones on the Zoom de.

But what came up in my search was a comment that a number of people get no sound with Zoom desktop app and it is better to use Zoom web app. So I have uninstalled the desktop app and I will be trying the web app the next time I attend a meeting, though unfortunately that may not be for a while.

Actually the “audio socket” on that laptop does support a mic on a headset.

There is a selection for audio devices via the audio menu next to the audio mute button. There is also a test function in that menu.
