Question

Every time I set a webinar to record to the cloud a local recording is also made on my computer

Hi every time I set a webinar to record to the cloud a local recording is also made on my computer automatically, resulting in extra GB's on my hard drive and CPU usage. I am not sure, but it seems it only happens when I check the “Automatically record webinar - to the cloud” setting when planning the webinar. Anyone els have this issue?

Thanks,

hi @LiveOnlineEvent

Yes, I have the same experience. So you are not alone. I am working through the settings to find what is happening.
Are you running webinars, webinar plus or Events.
Zoom Events have updated their menus and I am looking to see if this has changed the interpretation of some setting.

Please like and mark as the solution if this helps

All the best

Great to know that I'm not alone! I am using a regular webinar license, I have no events license on this account. I think the first time I saw this behaviour was on Feb 12, but before that I haven't done a webinar since December.

It sounds like the local recording option might also be enabled in your Zoom settings. You may want to check under Settings → Recording in the Zoom web portal and make sure that Local Recording is disabled if you only want cloud recordings. Also, during the webinar, confirm that only Record to the Cloud is selected. This should prevent Zoom from creating a local copy on your computer.

Well, if course it's enabled as that's an option that I want as well. I want to be able to choose. I just don't want a local recording when I set the webinar to record in the cloud only.

[typing this again as I submitted it and got a “Something went wrong” error and my reply was gone -Ugh]

Agreed…why would I want to turn off this setting, just in case I need to record locally because an issue pops up?

Record to computer files

Allow hosts and participants to record the meeting to a computer. The recording will include video and shared content matching the recorder's view options, and an audio-only file.

This has happened to me recently as well….

Reoccurring (22 weeks so far) Webinar (basic) Series set to record to the cloud. that has been going on for 22 weeks

  • Today - Zoom recorded cloud recording as it should, as well as a local video, audio, recording.conf, and chat file to my regular Host’s local computer.
  • February 24th - Zoom did the same thing for someone filling in as the host on that account.
  • Zoom didn’t do it on March 3rd when I filled in as the Host, nor on any of the other 18 scheduled sessions with the regular Host.

Thoughts?

[and don’t get me started on taking away the ability to add dates to a newly scheduled reoccurring event that I’ve customized the dates and times to. The Zoom agent’s suggestions was to add in a few “extra” dates just in case you’ll need them. The reason I don’t use a reoccurring  open-ended option is that I want to be able to see when things are scheduled in the Upcoming events list.

And speaking of Upcomming Events list….why, why take away the 1…2…3…4 ->  option to click through the pages of scheduled events, and replace it with a limited-range calendar selection tool (now the same setup as requesting event participation data has)? Extra steps, clunkier, and slower.]
