Remove the red dot notification from Dock generated by Team Chat

This red dot from the Zoom dock icon needs to go. It entirely bypasses the system preferences, even if you disable badges and notifications the red dot persists as long as you have unread Team Chats.

This is entirely unnecessary and horrible UX design.

Just adding a +1. Zoom has so many great features and allows the user to tweak them for the perfect experience, but this one has headed in the wrong direction.

Please remove it - it’s so annoying and user hostile to override user settings for notifications

@Groot_ding any update? It’s 2026 I can’t handle additional unnecessary notification anxiety.

Totally agree this feels like a poor UX decision. If system-level notification settings are disabled, apps should respect that instead of forcing their own indicators. The persistent red dot for unread Team Chats becomes more distracting than helpful, especially when users have already chosen to turn off badges.

It would be great if there were an option within Zoom to fully disable this behavior or at least align it with OS notification preferences.

Adding a +1, please fix! Red dot has been a major distraction and frustration. And a bit of a trust-buster to not allow users to be able to control this.

I get why that’s frustrating it feels like it’s ignoring your system settings entirely.

What you’re seeing is actually tied to Team Chat unread status inside Zoom, not the usual OS-level notification badges. So even if you disable badges or notifications in macOS/Android/iOS, Zoom can still show that red dot as an in-app indicator, which is why it doesn’t go away.

A couple of things you can try:

  • Mark all Team Chats as read
    This is the only reliable way to clear the red dot right now. Once everything is read, the dot should disappear.
  • Disable or limit Team Chat notifications inside Zoom
    Go to Settings → Team Chat → Notifications and reduce them. It won’t always remove the dot, but it can prevent it from reappearing as often.
  • Sign out of Team Chat / switch status
    Some users report that changing chat availability or signing out of chat temporarily clears it.

Unfortunately, there’s currently no official setting to disable that red dot independently, which is why it feels like it bypasses system preferences it kind of does.

You’re definitely not alone in calling this out as poor UX. If it helps, submitting feedback through Zoom (Help → Give Feedback) can push this higher on their priority list, especially since it’s a common complaint.
