Zoom for Android + Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro mic connection issue (100% repro)

Hi. I have a Google Pixel 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro. When my earbuds are actively connected via Bluetooth, and I join to a zoom meeting on my phone, the microphone on the earbuds does not work. The only way to get it to work is to stay in the meeting, disconnect the earbuds entirely (power them off, or toggle Bluetooth connection), reconnect the earbuds, and then the microphone on the earbuds will work. This issue only happens to me with the Galaxy Buds4 Pro. I also have Nothing Ear 2 earbuds, and those do not exhibit the issue described.

I saw some posts here about the same behavior on Buds3 Pro, so I guess this has been an issue for a while.

Here is a 5 minute video of me reproducing the issue with the Galaxy Buds4 Pro, and also showing that the issue does not happen with the Nothing Ear 2:

Let me know if there is any other information I can help gather. Thanks!

@Jason Blomquist Could you please check if the "Android Auto" toggle is enabled on your device? If it is on, please turn it off. Then, try to reproduce the issue to see if it still occurs.

Hi Yokin, thanks for looking into this. That does fix part of it, what a weird interaction. Here’s exactly what I did:

Test setup:

Pixel 10 Pro

Ubuntu 24 PC w/ desktop Zoom app

Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro

  1. Start Zoom meeting on my PC
  2. In Zoom for Android, Settings > General > Android Auto → disable
  3. Power on and connect Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro to my phone
  4. Join the Zoom meeting on my phone

When I first join the meeting, the meeting audio is coming through my earbuds, and the earbuds mic works! Rejoice.

However, a new bug has appeared: In the Zoom for Android app at this point in the test, the audio device that appears to be selected is currently set to “Speaker”, despite the audio coming through my earbuds. When I attempt to switch from Speaker to Bluetooth, I am unable to select Bluetooth (nothing happens when I click it). If I click Speaker, also nothing happens (audio continues coming through my earbuds). If I click Earpiece, the menu actually does let me select it! But, the audio continues coming through my earbuds. Then, if I try to switch it from Earpiece to Speaker again, the audio actually does switch to coming out of the phone speaker.

At this point I was confused, so I attempted to switch back and forth between all of the audio options a bunch of times. There doesn’t seem to be consistent behavior here when switching between options -- sometimes selecting one option will yield the expected result, but sometimes it does not and Bluetooth overrides it. Speaker and Earpiece do let me select them -- when I say select, I mean the check mark moves. Bluetooth does not let me select it at all, e.g. the check mark does not move, but sometimes clicking the option does still makes the audio setting transition internally and the audio will come out of my earbuds despite the check mark still being on one of the other options.

Sorry if that was confusing, hopefully you can do something with that information… I see there is a “diagnostic data viewer” option in the settings menu as well, let me know if I could do anything with that which would be helpful for you.

@Jason Blomquist  Thanks for the attempt. I'll follow up on this issue. If there's a conclusion, I'll sync it with you.
