share screen via cable not showing anything other than whole screen or window

When I tap share screen, only availability is to share the window or the entire screen. No option seen for sharing by cable anymore. I’ve checked all of my Mac OS settings and privacy, and Zoom is allowed for all of the recordings, et cetera.

That is a really helpful comparison. Since your personal Zoom account works on the same Mac, with the same iPhone/iPad and cable, and you get the “Trust This Computer” prompt there, it sounds like your Mac settings, permissions, cable, and device are all working correctly.

The main thing I would like to check is how the FDU Zoom session is actually opening.

The “iPhone/iPad via Cable” option is available in the Zoom Workplace desktop app for Mac, but it is not available when Zoom is running through the Safari web client. If the FDU session is staying in Safari, that would explain why you only see “Window” and “Entire Screen” and why you are not getting the “Trust This Computer” prompt.

When you access Zoom through the FDU portal, do you see an option such as Open Zoom Workplace, Launch Meeting, or Open in Zoom app? If Safari asks whether you want to allow it to open Zoom Workplace, please allow it.

Once the FDU meeting is open, you can also check Zoom Workplace > About Zoom Workplace. If you do not see that menu, you may still be in the Safari web client.

If you can confirm what you see when launching the FDU session, that should help us narrow down what is happening.

Hello, @BrightEyes! Thanks for sharing what you’ve already checked. Since Zoom has the necessary recording and privacy permissions on your Mac, there are a couple of other things I’d check.

First, make sure you’re using the Zoom desktop app for Mac version 4.0.36452.0616 or later, with macOS 10.10 or later.

Then connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac before opening share screen. If prompted on the iPhone or iPad, tap ‘Trust This Computer’, and keep the device unlocked while you test.

It’s also worth trying a different cable to rule out a cable or connection issue.

Once the device is connected, go back to your meeting and select ‘share screen’. You should see iPhone/iPad via cable as an option alongside sharing a window or your entire screen.

If it’s still not appearing, sharing your Zoom version, macOS version, and iPhone/iPad model and iOS/iPadOS version would help us narrow this down.

Thank you for responding Don.z!!  I do and have all the system requirements you mention.  My iPhone or iPad are connected prior to starting Zoom - All I am getting is do you want to Share your Window or entire screen - I don’t get the message to trust this device, which I used to see. Zoom Workplace which I have to access through Safari because it is the FDU Zoom portal. MacOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate. iPhone 17 ProMax.  I checked the permissions in Safari Privacy and Websites and with 27 Screen sharing is Ask for zoom.us.  I’ve also checked the Zoom settings with my FDU license and can’t find anything that would cause this. What’s interesting is when I use my home Zoom license and email - I do not have this problem!! I get the Trust this device each time! So I figure it’s not my computer settings.

Thank you, Don.z for your reply! I was able to get support from FDU. And you are correct, I needed to go into FDU zoom now from the Zoom app. Then sign out of my personal Zoom and sign into the FDU site using the SSO. This brings me to the right place with all the controls that I need and usually get in my personal Zoom! I did not know how to do that prior to their call. So now the entire situation has been solved or resolved 😂 much appreciated for all your continued attention to this matter. It was very disconcerting that Zoom changed the exact day that I began teaching the semester on Zoom. Now all is right with the world. 😊

You’re most welcome, @BrightEyes! I’m glad you were able to get this sorted out with FDU and that everything is back to normal. It sounds like you’re all set now.

I’m marking my response as the best answer since it helped point to the issue. Thanks again for your patience while we worked through this, and best of luck with the semester!
