Extensions for External Cell Phone #'s

Hi,

We are in the process of switching to Zoom Phone from Ring Central. We currently have a set up where our field technicians have 4 digit extensions for the cell phones (AT&T). This group of employees are not zoom users nor is it applicable for them to be.

I’m a little lost as to where to start on recreating this setup. Any help is appreciated, Thank You!!!

Hello @Ronnie Aguilar,

To recreate your setup with 4-digit extensions for field technicians who are not Zoom users (using external cell phones), you’ll need to use Zoom Phone’s external contacts feature. This requires the BYOC/BYOP feature to be enabled on your account. Once enabled, account owners and admins can create a shared directory of external contacts (like your technicians’ cell phones), allowing them to be called by extension from the Zoom Workplace app.

You’ll need to contact Zoom Support to enable BYOC/BYOP if it’s not already active. After that, you can add your technicians as external contacts and assign them 4-digit extensions, so your team can reach them easily from Zoom Phone.

You can check out this article for more information.

Routing rules on your phone site settings might be the solution for you. If someone dials a certain series of numbers, it will call a phone number not on Zoom.
