Questions to my notes and translators

Hello Zoom,

Is the new “my notes” same to AI Companion? It must be approved by the seminar giver, right?

I am using the $5 PER MONTH translator.  Usually it totally depends on the seminar itself. I seldom got this service last month.

Please help on the two toolboxes.

Many thanks.

Hey @SaraLee

Thank you for your post.

Are "My Notes" and Zoom AI the Same Thing?

No, they are not the same — but they are closely related.

Zoom AI is Zoom's overall AI assistant — it's the umbrella product that covers many features, including meeting summaries, chat assistance, writing help, task generation, and My Notes.

My Notes is a specific feature within Zoom AI, not a separate standalone tool. Think of Zoom AI as the toolbox, and My Notes as one of the tools inside it.

Does "My Notes" Require Approval from the Seminar Host?

It depends on how you use My Notes:

Manual note-taking (you type your own notes yourself) → No approval needed from the seminar host.

AI-assisted transcription (My Notes automatically transcribes meeting audio and generates AI-powered notes) → This may require host or administrator approval, as the host or admin may control whether participants can use transcription-based features. Participants are also notified when transcription is being used.

So for seminars you attend (not host), whether you get the AI transcription feature largely depends on the seminar host's settings — which aligns with your experience of seldom getting this service.

About Your $5/Month Translator Add-On

The $5/month Translator is a separate, independently licensed add-on that provides real-time language translation during meetings. It is distinct from Zoom AI and My Notes.

Since you're typically attending someone else's seminar (not hosting), the host's account settings and plan will also determine what AI features are available to participants.

The inconsistency you experienced last month is most likely because each seminar host controls whether AI transcription and Zoom AI features are enabled for participants.
