I understand how this can be a bit confusing, especially since some security settings are available to certain users while others are managed at the account level.

Not only paid members can manage security settings—access to specific controls depends on both your role and where the setting is managed.

In-meeting security controls (during a meeting)

If you are the host or a co-host, you can manage several security features directly from the Zoom desktop app:

    • Sign in to the Zoom desktop app
    • Start the meeting
    • Click Host tools (or Security on older app versions)

    From there, you can:

    • Lock the meeting
    • Enable the Waiting Room
    • Hide participant profile pictures
    • Manage participant permissions such as screen sharing, chat, renaming, and unmuting.

Please note that some options may vary depending on your account type, app version, or licensing plan. Certain features are only available to licensed (paid) users.

Account-level security settings (outside a meeting)

Some security settings are controlled at the account or admin level. If these settings have been locked by the account owner or admin, members—including licensed users—will not be able to modify them from the app or desktop client.
