Question

Zoom Slow to Open a Meeting Link or Start a new Meeting

I am hoping that someone might be able to shine a light on an issue one of our users has with Zoom with Starting or Joining a meeting.

Currently we have a user having an issue with Zoom taking upwards of two minutes to either Join or Create a new meeting at best it takes a few minutes but at worst it can take closer to 15minutes for this user device to connect to a Zoom meeting link they have been sent or even start a New meeting themselves.

Currently they are on Zoom (64bit) Version 6.1.10 and their device is running Windows 11 Pro Version 23H2 (Build 22631.4037).

The hardware is a Lenovo ThinkPad 16s Pro Gen2 with a AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 7480, 32Gb Ram and a 512Gb SSD.

We have tried the following:

1. Un-installed Zoom, restarted device and then downloaded and re-installed.

2. Un-installed Zoom using the "Zoom Full Uninstaller" tool as per your website and re-started device, re-installed Zoom after re-downloading the latest release.

3. Clearing all Zoom Cookies and Cached data from the web-browser.

Unfortunately none of these have resolved the issue for this user and they are having no end of issues joining meetings setup with Zoom, as it is taking an extremely long time to connect.

I can confirm that the user is logged in to the desktop app and they are able to Open the settings, check for updates, view the calendar without any issues or delays.

Any advise or assistance with resolving this would be great!

I got to resolve this issue by my own. So I want to share how I got to fix it

I also use a Thinkpad ryzen laptop

I noticed that the camera of my laptop was not working properly. (though my IR camera is working)
I rollback the camera driver (via DeviceManager) and reboot

The camera works well. and the issue above was fixed

hope this will help you too.

hi @Accarrino

you might try Zoom Web App.

“The Zoom Web App brings the full Zoom Workplace experience to your browser, no downloads or plugins required. You can schedule, host, and join meetings, chat, manage your Zoom assets, and access the same AI-first features available on the desktop app. The Zoom Web App is especially useful for users who prefer the web or are limited in what they can install, allowing them to stay productive entirely from their browser. For the best audio and video experience, Zoom recommends downloading the Zoom Workplace desktop app when possible.

Learn more about the detailed list of meeting features available in the Zoom Web App.”

Getting started with the Zoom Web App

I don't think the performance complaints are happening in isolation. Zoom has spent the last few years turning a straightforward video conferencing app into a full-blown "Workplace" suite with chat, whiteboards, file sharing, spreadsheets, surveys, AI features, and a growing list of productivity tools. In the process, the core product seems to be getting buried.

The most frustrating example was when Zoom moved essential meeting controls like Screen Share into secondary menus during its Workplace redesign. When one of the most-used features in a video meeting is harder to find than a whiteboard or workflow tool, the priorities seem backwards.

Many of us adopted Zoom because it was simple, fast, and reliable. You clicked a link and joined a meeting. Now the application feels increasingly bloated, with users forced to load and pay for a growing collection of Workplace features they never asked for and may never use.

If users are reporting slow startup times, delayed meeting launches, and general sluggishness, Zoom should seriously consider whether all this feature expansion is affecting the experience of people who just need a video conference platform. Not everyone wants Zoom to become a Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace competitor. A lot of us just want the fastest, most reliable meeting app possible.

Honestly, I'd love to see a "Zoom Classic" or "Zoom Lite" version that strips out all the Workplace clutter and focuses exclusively on meetings. Zoom became successful because of simplicity. The more it chases being an everything-app, the more it risks undermining the thing it was best at.
