Zoom Meeting started in Android does not respond to Dark Mode settings.

I was with a friend and noticed what might be a recent change, but I was wondering if anyone else encountered this issue.

The zoom app responds to Dark Mode on my Android Device on the main screen (start a meeting, Join, Schedule, Share Screen). But when I start a meeting, the meeting itself is always in dark mode. My participants list is black (white text on a dark background). Is there another setting or feature for this? I'd like to be able to have my meeting window in the black text on white background if possible, or at least follow the Dark Mode setting when I turn it on in Android.

1. Turn off Dark mode on your android device

2. Choose New meeting or join a meeting

3. Note that the window that pops up for the meeting is in dark mode and doesn't seem to be affected by changing the Dark Mode on the device.

Android app -> 6.2.2 (24621)

I am having this same issue on a Mac. The only window that responds to my settings is the settings window. All the zoom windows continue in dark mode despite toggling settings and restarting zoom.

(I detest dark mode windows! This makes zoom hosting very irritating.)

It’s not just you—this behavior has been noticed by quite a few Android users on the Zoom app.

Right now, the in-meeting interface (including the participants list, chat, and controls) doesn’t fully follow your system-wide Dark Mode setting. Even if you turn Dark Mode off on Android, the actual meeting UI can still appear in dark theme. This seems to be intentional in recent versions like 6.2.2, rather than a bug.

A few key points:

  • The home screen (New Meeting, Join, Schedule, etc.) follows your device theme.
  • The in-meeting UI uses its own fixed dark-style interface.
  • There is currently no separate setting in Zoom to force light mode during meetings.

Why this happens:
Zoom likely keeps the in-meeting UI dark to reduce eye strain and improve visibility during calls, especially in low-light environments. But yes, it can feel inconsistent.

What you can try:

  • Check Zoom settings → GeneralTheme (if available on your device/version), but many users report this doesn’t affect in-meeting UI.
  • Keep the app updated—Zoom occasionally tweaks UI behavior in updates.

Bottom line:
As of now, there’s no way to switch the meeting window to a light (white background) mode on Android. You’re seeing the expected behavior for the current version.

If this is important for your workflow, it might be worth submitting feedback directly through Zoom—they do take UI requests seriously, especially when multiple users report the same thing.
