Zoom meeting no longer respecting system light/dark mode status

Running Zoom version Version: 7.0.0 (77593) on MacOS Sonoma. I cannot see things in dark mode but Zoom now defaults to dark mode and setting the mode to light using Settings/General and clicking on the light option does not work.

I have verified that I have light setting in both the main zoom desktop and in individual meeting settings and it persists in displaying as Dark mode!

How do I get it back to readable/viewable in the comfortable light mode?

    Hi Oogie,

This issue is currently affecting some Mac users running recent Zoom versions, including 7.0.0 on macOS Sonoma, where the Light Mode setting does not apply and the interface remains in Dark Mode. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and temporarily work around it:

You may check Mac OS Appearance Settings

    • On your Mac, open System Settings → Appearance.
    • Select Light mode.
    • Quit and reopen Zoom.
      • If Zoom still appears dark, continue to the next step.

    Update or reinstall Zoom

A known UI bug in recent builds can cause the dark‑mode lock.

    1. In Zoom, click your profile picture → Check for Updates.
    2. If no update appears, uninstall Zoom:
      • Open Applications, drag Zoom to Trash.
      • Download the latest installer from zoom.us/download and reinstall.
    3. After reinstalling, set Light Mode again under Settings → General.

    Report to Zoom Support

If none of these steps restore Light Mode, submit a bug report at support.zoom.us → Technical Issues → Zoom Desktop Client.
    Include:

    • macOS Sonoma version
    • Zoom 7.0.0 (77593)
    • Note that “Light Mode setting does not apply; app remains in Dark Mode.”

took several reinstalls with reboots in between but one finally worked.
