zoom linux mint latest update crashes and terminates

latest Jan 24 update for linux mint crashes continuously. older dec 2023 version still works. It brings up the zoom panel but says zoom has crashed, please send a report, but it crashes and terminates before I get a chance to send the report. I am running mint Tina 19 version (cant update because of other legacy software). I tried the web version, but this just calls the same crashing app. I looked at the stderr log and see this at the end of the log:

0126/115509.884840:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(992)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=139
[0126/115510.349004:ERROR:gpu_process_host.cc(992)] GPU process exited unexpectedly: exit_code=139
[0126/115510.349047:FATAL:gpu_data_manager_impl_private.cc(448)] GPU process isn't usable. Goodbye.
zoom was exited due to a handled signal: 4
ZoomLauncher exit.

I have a similar problem in Ubuntu 20.04:

Version 5.16.10 is working, but since 5.17.0 all versions are crashing for non local users with home on a nfs4 file system. We are using X11 not wayland.

The last Message is:

...

zoom started.
[0209/134909.343012:FATAL:path_service.cc(256)] Failed to get the path for 1001
zoom was exited due to a handled signal: 5
ZoomLauncher exit.

I have the same issue.  I am using Linux Mint 22, Wilma.  Zoom works great, until it crashes.  The existing meeting is still open.  When I start Zoom again, I am told that the previous meeting is still open, and I can close it before starting another one.
