Windows Audio Device Graph isolation - taking up alot of memory in Zoom

Zoom causes computer to go to black screen. I believe it is related to Windows Audio Device Graph isolation taking up alot of memory when Zoom - at least this is what I was able to determine a week or so ago when this last happened. I am running a brand new high performance HP laptop with 64GB memory. I had to shut the computer down and restart. But then switched to accessing the Zoom meeting on my iPhone instead of my laptop.

Zoom version 6.5.7


Zoom ran fine on my old Dell laptop w Windows 10. But Zoom entirely freezes (black screen) my new HP laptop w 64GB memory and NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX discrete graphics card. Zoom version 6.5.7. Last week when I attempted a meeting, Zoom froze but I was able to see Windows Audio Device Graph isolation taking up all memory.

NOTE THAT WHILE I was composing this message and had the Zoom app open, but not in a meeting, Windows Audio Device Graph isolation began taking up all memory. I closed the process.

    Same here. I have a HP Omnibook X Flip 14inch AMD Ryzen 9 AI with 32GB RAM. When Zoom runs, Windows Audio Device Graph isolation reaches 18gb before everything starts to hang or crash including Zoom.

    After using Zoom’s AI support Bot, a couple of hours of testing, this is the result:

    I’m seeing a repeatable issue on my Windows 11 HP laptop since day one (purchased July 31, 2026) involving the built-in Realtek/SoundWire microphone. Omnibook X Flip 14” AMD Ryzen 9 AI, 32GB memory, with Realtek Audio chipset.

     

    Symptom:

    • When I open Zoom’s Settings > Audio (even before joining a meeting), Windows “Audio Device Graph Isolation” (audiodg.exe) rapidly consumes memory and the system becomes unstable/crashes.
    • This happens as soon as Zoom enumerates audio devices.

     

    What I’ve tried (no fix):

    • Latest HP/Realtek audio drivers installed.
    • Disabled Windows audio enhancements and Zoom audio signal processing options.
    • Changed default audio formats (44.1/48k), changed Zoom device selection, etc.

    Key isolation result:

    • The problem stops completely if I uninstall/disable the built-in mic: “Microphone Array on SoundWire Device (Realtek Microphone)”.
    • If I use an external headset/earphones mic instead, Zoom works normally and audiodg.exe does not spike.

    Conclusion: This appears to be a Realtek SoundWire microphone driver/effects chain issue triggered by certain apps (in my case Zoom) enumerating the microphone, causing audiodg.exe memory runaway.

    This appears to need a driver/firmware/BIOS fix or a way to disable the Realtek mic DSP/audio effects at the driver level.

    Current Workaround: Set Zoom audio settings to use Same as System, then plug in my earphones with mic before I open Zoom. This ensures that Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation does not runaway with the memory. In the meantime, I will wait on a driver fix from HP.
