Zoom client must be upgraded to join this meeting? - chromebook

Hello, two of my friends are using Zoom on a Chromebook. They both are getting this error message when logging into our meeting: "zoom client must be upgraded to join this meeting".  (See attached picture.)

We checked and their Zoom client, Chrome browser, and Chromebook are all up to date. The zoom client is version 5.0.1 for chrome os.

Is there a there a reason why they're both getting this error message? It started after everyone received the latest mandatory update, but the chromebook os didn't get this update.  Do they have to wait for an update?

Since  ChromeOS apps are being phased out by Google, I'd recommend they switch to using the web client, which already has more features than the ChromeOS app. This article has more information about how to use the PWA/Web client: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/4403638230925-Getting-started-with-the-Zoom-for-Chrome-PWA

I sure hope the PWA is updated to include E2E soon. Kind of makes the app useless on a Chromebook if the event you're trying to join has E2E enabled. So currently this is only half a solution, or with privacy compliancy rules in mind, which make using E2E mandatory (and rightfully so!), it is probably not a solution at all.

I have the same problem. I cannot join the meeting from the client app since it needs to be but cannot be upgraded. And I cannot join the meeting from the PWA because it does not support end-to-end encryption... What a dilemma...

This is crucial. No E2E-support, while the organizer of this event I want to join only offers an E2E-connection (and rightly so!) This is currently killing it for Chromebook users. The webapp is not supported anymore, while the PWA is not supporting the necessary features. Very very frustrating!

Today I experienced a full Zoom-meeting lockout, with my beloved Chromebook for no apparent reason.
I have a less than a year old Lenovo Chromebook with ChromeOS Version 98.0.4729.0 (Official Build) dev (64-bit)
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.zoom.videomeetings
shows this device is not compatible with the current version, and I can't update the Zoom version.

What do I have to do?

Delete zoom app. Update chromebook. Restart. Re download zoom app. Should work but sometimes takes a week. Thats what happened to me
