Zoom client dark mode always resets when starting Zoom?

I have this annoying issue on my Windows desktop running latest available Zoom download. The mode (light, dark, system) is not applied after restarting Zoom client.  I can see in the zoom.us.ini file that com.zoom.client.theme.mode is correctly set to 2 (dark) or 3 (system, which is dark mode for me) and is updated when changing modes.  But everytime I start Zoom it is bright white and i have to go the Settings-->General and toggle b/t Dark or System to get dark mode again. 

But my laptop does not have this probem.  I’ve uninstalled Zoom and reinstalled but no change in this behavior. 

Any ideas?
