Zoom changes the side by side video window size from settings on host computer during screen shares when recording is done on the host computer

I’m really tired of Zoom changing the size of the video window in my host recordings on the computer, from what I set it to before the meeting starts. It looks fine in the meeting when a participant shares a screen, but the recording shrinks the video window down. When I say video window I mean the picture-in-picture window of the person speaking next to the shared screen in side by side mode. Zoom themselves are useless. They have no clue. This just started as a result of one of Zoom’s totally unnecessary updates. Does anyone know a fix for this? Thanks!

    HI @Driscollvideo

That is easy to fix, but not obvious.
When you share, you can grab the control bars and resize and also move the speaker.

Thank you John for the reply, however, I guess I didn’t make it clear enough - I know how to resize the video during the meeting. No matter what size I make it, Zoom makes it smaller in the recording on my local host computer. Weird thing is that this only happens on the host computer; I’m a legal videographer and I run at least two other computers as backups for every meeting (deposition) and the recordings on them have the video window the way I set it.

And I am talking about this problem as it relates to the screen shares by other participants - not when I share, (which I never do as the videographer in the Zoom deposition) - when they share the video window size that I have set looks fine, it’s only reduced in size when Zoom records it on my host computer. Thanks

@Driscollvideo , OK yes, I agree, and I also read these posts fast and do not always get the point, sorry

The Dev team that controls Zoom recordings and the team that controls Zoom streaming are different to the team that controls what happens in a meeting or webinar. They are not, and never will be in sync for what they offer and show.

Many of the things that happen in the meeting do not turn out on the recordings or streams. Cloud recordings are set ‘views’ of the meeting, and local recording is what your machine sees.
If you want changes in speaker and shares, then you have to get the right recording- maybe speaker and screen share as separate recordings and then merge them yourself.
That is why I use Zoom Production Studio for my webinars. It might cost more and make more work, but I have a guaranteed exact version in the recording and stream.

Thanks again John. I don’t use cloud recordings because believe it or not they cut the recording into segments and they leave a gap between the segments! The video window changing size in local recordings is new to my host machines. I overcome it by using the recording from one of my backups, and I further protect myself by using screen recording via Litecam or Win G on one of the backups. I use to use OBS but Zoom changed something late last year so that when someone shares a screen the whole window size increases so that the share forces the video window outside the OBS frame! Weird! Best wishes. Ed

Further info on problem of side by side video being recorded smaller than it was sized and appeared in the meeting: The shrunk video window in local recordings now only seems to happen on the host computer. Weird! The recordings on my backup (as meeting participant) machines record the video window like I set it up.
