I got off the plan that cost $18/month because it had more bells and whistles than I needed and was offered Zoom basic for $7.99/month.  I am supposed to get four meetings per month that can go beyond 40 minutes, but in fact all of my meetings are being cut off at 40 minutes.  Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, have you found a solution besides just giving up on Zoom basic?

    hi @Leah Carroll ,

Zoom basic is not a publically available version.

I understand that Zoom has a popup near the 40 minutes that warns you of the limit, but if you have not used your allocation of longer meetings in that billing period, it will offer you the chance to extend that meeting.

Personally, I would not recommend using Zoom Basic. Use free until you can justify the price of the full version. Which I consider great value for money considering what my mobile phone bill is!

    all the best

Nope, there was never any pop up offering more time.  I just got ripped off by zoom I guess. One support person contacted me but never actually addressed the issue. I’ll take your advice and go for the free one, since I’m not getting the 4 extensions per month anyhow.

Zoom Basic is offered only to those who cancel their paid zoom, as a “retention policy”. They don’t advertise it. But I guess it didn’t work to retain me, either!

Update:  the “extend” is not a pop-up at all, as I was expecting, but it’s a tiny little green shield icon on the upper right margin of the screen that appears only when you’ve got your cursor in the zoom window. So it’s not visible if you are, say, taking notes in a Word document during your meeting.
