Question

Wired headphone audio volume very low.

I’m using wired headphones connected to my HP laptop using Windows 11 Pro.

When I play music or other media, the volume is perfectly fine and at a normal level. However, when I join a Zoom meeting, the audio becomes noticeably very low.

I’ve already checked and confirmed that the volume is set high both in Windows 11 and within Zoom’s audio settings, but the issue still persists.

Does anyone have a fix to this?

Hello @Eyal l,

To fix low Zoom audio with your wired headphones on Windows 11, try these steps:

  1. In your Zoom meeting, click the arrow next to the Mute/Unmute button in the toolbar.
  2. Under "Select a Speaker," make sure your headphones are chosen as the audio output device.
  3. Double-check and adjust both your computer’s and Zoom’s volume settings as needed.

Hi, you may have missed this “I’ve already checked and confirmed that the volume is set high both in Windows 11 and within Zoom’s audio settings”.

This has to be a Zoom issue because audio volume is not an issue when playing audio in other applications.

Thanks,

Eyal

This usually happens because Windows treats Zoom as a separate communication app and applies different audio rules.

A couple of things you can try:

  • Go to Control Panel → Sound → Communications tab and make sure it’s set to “Do nothing” (Windows sometimes lowers volume during calls).
  • In Zoom audio settings, disable “Automatically adjust volume” and test manually.
  • Check Volume Mixer (right-click sound icon → Volume Mixer) while you’re in a Zoom call  Zoom might be set lower than other apps.
  • Also check if audio enhancements or spatial sound are enabled and try turning them off.

If music sounds fine but only Zoom is low, it’s almost always a per-app volume or communication setting issue
