Why do Co-host required to register to a meeting requiring the participants to register

Co-hosts are designated in-meeting only, not ahead of time. So, Zoom looks at everybody during join time as an attendee, then the Host designates their elected co-hosts.

The only pre-designation option would be "Alternative Hosts", which are folks that are part of your same Zoom organization.

I had a meeting setup with alternative hosts but upon clicking the meeting link, they were directed to the registration portal. Is there a work around this?
