Virtual Backgrounds Not Working

Running Mac OS 11.5.2 with Zoom 5.7.6

Used to have several Virtual Backgrounds. Today, none were available in the Zoom preferences. The files are still in my Library Folder

Application Support/zoom.us/data/VirtualBkgnd_Custom

One example is named

4D878AC8-9145-4D0E-939C-35B859A27463

They display correctly when I open them with either Preview or GraphicConverter but do NOT show up in Zoom.

How do I get Zoom to use these files as Virtual Backgrounds? Thank you.

Hey @pachy, have you tried deleting the file out of the folder and re-adding it? I retraced your steps and I'm unfamiliar with any additional folders such as /data/VirtualBkgnd_Custom. From my Background & Filter settings on the client, I am able to see my video preview with the virtual background under the Video settings.

Just to make sure, when you add your virtual backgrounds you add them by clicking the plus sign and adding the image. This would be the way to upload virtual backgrounds to your Zoom desktop client.

You can also check out the Changing your Virtual Background image KB article. Hope this helps you!

    Hello @pachy and @RN52_2

    I have the same challenge.

The virtual backgrounds are in my MacBook library :

    Application Support/zoom.us/data/VirtualBkgnd_Custom

but the images and videos for virtual backgrounds are not available in the zoom app nor online.

On another note, I found over 5500 images that Zoom had accumulated without my permission in the confavatar folder.. that means that every time I attended a webinar, somehow Zoom saved all their avatars. You might want to check that folder, too, @pachy

@RN52_2 you suggested to add all the images again. First of all, the images are already in the Mac OS Library. Secondly, it would take some time to upload all the images a second time when this is really a tech problem that the Zoom tech team should tackle.

Thanks for your help and any more suggestions you might have. 😄
