Users are getting asked for a code while using an embedded password link

I have a few clients that are getting asked to enter a code when we've provided an embedded password link - has anyone had this issue - and what was the issue/solution?

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @MarciT.

This most often happens when the link that has been sent has been modified in some way (usually inadvertently).  Sometimes I see that the link spans 2 lines in one document, and only the top line is copied/pasted and sent to the attendees.  Sometimes just the introduction of a space or an accidental typo somewhere can mess up the encoded Passcode.

My personal "best practice" is to always send the Meeting ID and Passcode from the invitation on separate lines along with the Join link.

I've never seen a confirmed instance where the complete Join URL was sent intact and the meeting failed to be joined -- except in one instance where someone changed the Passcode after the link was sent out.

Our team has this problem often. The link is pasted into an email. Most recipients of the email can click the link and join successfully. There are always one or two than need the meeting ID and passcode separately to sign in. This is very disruptive to the flow of the meeting.

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @Sharki.

My response above is still true today. If the Join link is properly and fully copied, unaltered and clicked in any modem email software, it will work, provided the meeting owner does not change the Passcode or other security parameters. Most cases where this hasn’t worked turns out to be partial copying/pasting of the Join link, or corrupting it with stray extra characters or character deletions.

Any chance the meeting passcode was changed after the meeting link with embedded passcode was sent?

Our team is having the same problem.  The links are sent out in automated email and text reminders.  There is no copy and paste on our end and we can see what was sent, so we know the entire link is being sent.  The same reminders are going out to the whole group and only a few individuals are being asked for a password.

We're having this issue too. We copy the URL from the meeting in progress (from the and people are still being asked for a passcode. In my emails I copy the URL from the meeting setup. We've re done this process multiple times with the problem recurring.

If I could upload screenshots I could show you the source from where we're copying the URLs, but since I can't, rest assured I'm copying them directly from the zoom platform.

Welcome to the Zoom Community, @katesviola.

What are the last 8 characters of the URL you are sending?

I’m having the same issue too on Linux, but only on some devices. All use the current official Zoom client.
I use the same meeting link containing the encoded password like everyone else. If I chose “Join from Zoom Workslace app” the client opens and asks for the PIN. If I choose “Join from Browser” instead it works just fine. So I’m pretty confident the link in the EMail is the correct one and has not been altered in transit.

Hey @2001db8. Thanks for mentioning you’re using Linux, and that “Join from browser” works, but “Join using Workplace” doesn’t.  I think that the Join from Browser passes the full encoded URL to the browser which the Zoom web portal properly deciphers, but something in the handoff to Workplace isn’t quite making the correct connection.  Two possibilities come to mind:

    1. Consider that the install of Workplace might be corrupted, either within the Zoom Workplace code itself, or any of the system linkages that are built as part of the install process (sorry, not a Linux guy, so maybe there’s a different term) are not properly set up.  Try uninstalling Zoom Workplace and re-installing to see if that helps.  There have been a number of “major interface changes” over the last 2 years, that this might have happened during an update.
    2. Are all of your Linux installs the exact same configuration?  If not, does it work for some and not others? Zoom has a heck of a time making their install work reliably in all possible configurations, so if you can help identify the config where it does and does not work, that’s worth pushing over to the engineering team for possible resolution.

If you can think of any other potential differences, that would be very helpful.  Be sure to mention me on the reply so I’ll get alerted via email and can hopefully respond faster.
