Subject: URGENT: Institutional Escalation Required for Zoom App Bug Disrupted Online Classes

Dear ZOOM Head of IT,

I am writing to request an urgent, official enterprise-level escalation regarding a critical technical bug introduced in the recent Zoom Workplace update (v7.1.5). This bug is currently disrupting our ability to deliver online lessons and is directly impacting student learning.

The Issue:
During live lectures, when teachers share their desktop screens (Mac or Windows) and use an iPad with an Apple Pencil to write out solutions, formulas, or diagrams via the Zoom Annotation/Whiteboard feature, the digital ink lines vanish mid-sentence. The stroke breaks halfway through, forcing us to constantly rewrite the same information.

Impact on Students:
Our students are facing significant difficulties copying down lesson notes, calculations, and whiteboard workings during live classes. This is creating severe friction in our daily teaching workflows and reducing instructional efficiency.

Technical Reference for IT:

  • Affected Version: Zoom Workplace v7.1.5 (Released recently).
  • Stable Version: Zoom Workplace v7.1.0 (This issue does not occur here).
  • Root Cause Category: A regression involving stylus input signal reception or drawing vector buffer desync on the host desktop application

Requested Action from our IT / Administration Team:

  1. Contact our Zoom Enterprise Account Manager: Please submit a Tier 3 high-priority technical ticket directly to our assigned Zoom corporate representative. Request their engineering team to review the code updates between v7.1.0 and v7.1.5 specifically related to screen-share annotation buffer handling.
  2. Authorize a Temporary Downgrade: If possible, please authorize and assist teachers in rolling back their Zoom desktop applications to the stable v7.1.0 version and disabling temporary auto-updates until Zoom issues a verified hotfix.

Thank you for your prompt intervention in securing a stable learning environment for our students.

Best regards,

Sounds like a clear regression in v7.1.5 report it to Zoom with reproduction steps and device details, and temporarily roll back to v7.1.0 if your IT policy allows.

Similar issue from me when I use ipad pro or ipad air to conduct zoom lesson for 20 - 30 students as participants. Annotation keep disappearing after I wrote. So I have to repeat the same stoke many times. In the past 4 years of use, everything is ok. The problem only appear in recent weeks.

My zoom version on ipad is the lastest. Please help to look into this issue, thx!

I agree with your action. Contact your enterprise account manager, they will not read this post, and I have not way of knowing who it is.

While waiting for Zoom to revert on the solution to resolve the disappearing annotations problem that occur in ipad, I have found another way to get around it. I uninstall the Zoom Workplace and install Zoom Rooms instead. I no longer encounter the disappearing annotations. Not sure if this is a permanent solution.
