Hi @Nicholas Bernstein, welcome to Zoom Community! Here’s how to turn real time translation on and start using it in your Zoom meetings or webinars:
-
Enable Translated Captions in Your Account
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
- Go to Settings → Meeting → In Meeting (Advanced).
- Turn on Automated captions and then enable Translated captions.
- Choose the languages you want to make available (for example, English ↔ Spanish, French, Japanese, etc.).
- Click Save.
- Note: If you’re part of an organization, your admin may need to enable this feature at the account level before you can use it.
-
Use Real‑Time Translation in a Meeting: Once enabled, you can activate it during any meeting or webinar:
- Start your meeting.
- Click the “Show Captions” or “CC” button on the toolbar.
- Select “Translated Captions”.
- Choose your spoken language and the language you want captions translated into.
- Participants can also select their own preferred translation language from the same menu.
- The translation happens in real time so participants will see captions in their chosen language as people speak.
-
Supported Languages and Quality
- Zoom supports dozens of language pairs, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
- The translation quality depends on the clarity of speech and background noise. Using a good microphone and speaking clearly improves accuracy.
-
Best Practices
- Update your Zoom client to the latest version to ensure the translation UI appears.
- Use a headset for clearer audio input.
- Enable captions early in the meeting so participants can select their preferred language.
- For webinars, ensure panelists and hosts also have translation enabled in their settings.
-
Limitations
- Real‑time translation currently works for spoken‑to‑text captions, not voice‑to‑voice audio translation.
- Each participant must enable captions individually to view translations.
