Title: Zoom Workplace unexpectedly closes and triggers Windows shutdown – Event ID 1074 / RuntimeBroker.exe

I'm experiencing an unusual issue with Zoom Workplace on two different Windows computers.

During a Zoom meeting, the Zoom application suddenly disappears, and Windows immediately begins shutting down.

This has occurred on two different computers, in different locations and using separate power sources. Both computers use the same Zoom account and attend the same meeting or meetings hosted by the same person.

On my HP ProDesk 400 G6 running Windows 10 Pro, Event Viewer repeatedly shows:

  • Event ID 1074

  • Process: C:\Windows\System32\RuntimeBroker.exe

  • Shutdown Type: Power Off

  • Reason Code: 0x0

On October 23, 2026:

  • 20:33:58 — Event 1074: RuntimeBroker.exe initiated shutdown.

  • 20:34:27 — Event 1073: Shutdown attempt failed.

I also discovered that keeping an unsaved Notepad document open allows Windows to display a shutdown warning and lets me cancel the shutdown. This suggests Windows is receiving a normal shutdown request rather than experiencing an immediate power failure.

I have encrypted Zoom diagnostic logs (.zenc) generated around the shutdown time.

Has anyone experienced Zoom Workplace closing unexpectedly and then triggering a Windows shutdown request, particularly involving RuntimeBroker.exe?

Are there any known Zoom client bugs, account-related behaviors, or compatibility issues that could explain this?

Any troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
