Sound quality in interpretation

I have been participating in some large Zoom meetings with a nonprofit that I volunteer for.  We have been trying to interpret these meetings into multiple languages simultaneously.  There have been intractable sound issues, where the people who are trying to listen to the interpretation can only hear a small part of what the interpreter is saying.

Has anyone else had this issue?  Does anyone know the solution?

Hi @aebttny,

If you're experiencing issues with interpretation audio during a Zoom meeting or webinar, here are a few things to check:

  1. Zoom App Version: Ensure you're using the Zoom desktop app for Windows or macOS and that it's updated to the minimum required version.

  2. Audio Connection: Join the meeting using computer audio/VoIP, as language interpretation is not supported with dial-in or "Call Me" phone audio options.

  3. Interpreter Guidelines: As an interpreter, you can only broadcast to one language channel at a time to prevent confusion and language crossover. You can switch between the meeting's native audio channel and your assigned interpretation channel.

  4. Audio Settings & Compatibility: If you're experiencing issues with interpretation audio, check your audio settings, confirm you're on the correct language channel, and ensure version compatibility for interpretation relay.

  5. Screen Sharing with Audio: If you're sharing your screen with computer audio while language interpretation is active, all participants will hear the audio at full volume (100%). To avoid audio imbalance, it's recommended to refrain from sharing audio while language interpretation is in use.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

Was using desktop app

Was using latest version

Was not calling in or using "call me"

I was properly set up in the interpretation channel by the host & could see the little pop up near the bottom of the screen indicating that I was listening in English and speaking in French

Was not sharing screen

It did seem to help to use wired earbuds for mic & speaker
