Share from Zoom home mirrors entire screen in a meeting - is there a workaround?

At work, there are instances when a Zoom meeting isn’t scheduled and we are meeting in person. When clicking share on the home screen on the Zoom app, it projects a mirror of my screen in the meeting. My laptop display doesn’t seem to allow me to select extend display so that I can treat the projection as a second screen. Is there a way to treat my laptop and the projection in the meeting to be two separate screen? Or, is there a way for me to use the share option on the Zoom home screen but have it give me the picker instead of automatically share my full screen? I want to project a presentation to screen but see notes on my laptop.

    Hey @MGG

Thank you for posting your question here.

    • Best approach: Configure your projector as a second monitor and enable Zoom’s dual monitor feature. Use Presenter View in PowerPoint to share slides while viewing notes separately.

    • If dual monitors aren’t possible: Use the “Portion of Screen” option to share only the slide area, preserving confidentiality of your notes.

    • Avoid using Zoom’s home‑screen share for presentations—start a quick meeting instead to access full sharing controls and options.

Thanks! Unfortunately, there is no option to treat the projector as a second monitor. According to our IT, the screen is only a projector. When the portion of screen option is used on my laptop, they still see my desktop. It looks like I might be stuck starting a meeting on my laptop and logging into the meeting in the conference room console, which isn’t ideal.
