Screen Sharing wont detect specific screen

Hi,

I’m experiencing an intermittent issue with Zoom screen sharing on my MacBook Air M2 (Tahoe)

During a meeting, when I click Share Screen, I can initially see all the individual application windows (such as Chrome, Foxit PDF, Finder, etc.) and I’m able to share a specific window without any problem.

However, after a few minutes in the same meeting, when I try to share my screen again, those individual application windows suddenly disappear from the Share Screen selection. The only available options are Entire Screen and a few other items (for example, Sticky Notes), while applications like Chrome, Foxit PDF, and Finder are no longer listed.

This issue only happens sometimes and is not consistent. Since the window-sharing option works at the beginning of the meeting, I don’t think it’s a Screen Recording permission issue.

My setup:

  • MacBook Air M2
  • Latest version of Zoom (I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Zoom)
  • Using the Zoom desktop app (not the browser version)
  • macOS Tahoe

Things I’ve already tried:

  • Restarting Zoom
  • Reinstalling Zoom
  • Confirmed that Screen Recording permission is enabled

Could you please help me identify what might be causing the individual application windows to disappear during a meeting? Is this a known issue, and are there any logs or additional information I can provide to help troubleshoot it?

Hi, thanks for the detailed report. A few quick clarifying questions to narrow this down — I suspect it's window-state related rather than a permission issue.

Stage Manager / Spaces

  • Is Stage Manager on? Does turning it off help?
  • Is the Zoom meeting in fullscreen (its own Space) when the issue happens?
  • Are Chrome / Foxit / Finder on the same Space as Zoom, or a different Desktop?

State of the missing windows (at the moment of failure)

  • Are they minimized to the Dock, or hidden (⌘H)?
  • Any of them in fullscreen themselves (e.g. Chrome video)?
  • On an external display that got disconnected / went to sleep?

Right before the list collapses

  • Did you stop a previous share, enter/exit Zoom fullscreen, or switch Spaces?
  • Roughly how many minutes into the meeting?

Recovery

  • What brings the windows back — waiting, clicking the app in the Dock first, or only a Zoom restart?
