Renaming participants from the waiting room

I know how to rename Zoom participants once they’ve joined a meeting.  My question today is:  How can the host rename people when they are still in the waiting room?  I need to ensure  anonymity for some of the work I do and it’s a challenge for me to rush changing the names ASAP when people join in [and i know that even for a fraction of a second, the name might be visible to everyone].  If I could do it before people were let into the Zoom discussion, that would be great.

Yes, hosts can rename participants directly from the Waiting Room.

    How to do it:

    1. Enable the feature first (admin/host account settings): Go to Zoom web portal → Account SettingsIn Meeting (Basic) → Turn on "Allow host or co-host to rename participants in the waiting room".
    2. During the meeting:
      • Click Participants.
      • In the Waiting Room section, click the ⋯ More button next to the person.
      • Select Rename, enter the new name, and click Change.

The participant gets a notification of the name change (they can accept or leave). This prevents their original name from briefly appearing when admitted.

This solves the anonymity issue you mentioned.
