Recording host only (not just active speaker)

@dmstauber If you spotlight yourself (click on your name in the participant list, click on the 3 dots and select Spotlight), you will be the only attendee that everyone sees, and the only attendee recorded.  This will also only show you during the class, though, so I am not sure if this is exactly what you wanted.

or is there a way to edit out the other participants after the video is created?

I have this problem too. Using the spotlight option does not prevent my recording to sometimes switch to participants. It seems to happen if I only have one participant (one on one).  Would love to get this fixed!

I do think that the spotlight only works with multiple users (since if there are only 2 participants, it becomes more of a conversation).   There is not really a fix for this, but might be worth entering a feature request. 

@Lindy2 - Have you tried selecting "Focus Mode" to see if that keeps the host on screen?

Was this question ever satisfactorily solved? Regarding seeing the students as a gallery during the class, and only seeing the recording to be of the host? (Speaker View can trigger the camera to be on a student, when we want the recording to only show the host the entire recording)

I too would love this solved.  I use zoom for lots of classes but frustrated by not being able to record just me, while keeping participants visible.  Zoom isnt cheap so would like to get my moneys worth!

If you pin yourself and start a local recording on Zoom, your local video feed will remain locked in focus on your screen and will be the primary view captured in the resulting video file.

If you wish to see other views I would join from a second computer at the same time.

How Local Recording Works with Pinning

• Captures your view: A local recording saves exactly what is visible on your application window
• Locks the video: Because you pinned yourself, active speaker switching is overridden for your layout, keeping you as the main video on the recording
• Private action: Pinning yourself is a local action. Other meeting participants cannot see that you have pinned yourself, and they are not notified
• No effect on others: Your pin only changes your personal layout and your local recording file. It does not change what other participants see or what is captured in cloud recordings
