Up until recently, I could sign into the same meeting with two devices. Zoom support says “

Last Updated: March 28, 2023

You can be signed in to Zoom on one computer, one tablet, and one phone at a time. If you sign into an additional device while logged into another device of the same type, you will be logged out automatically on the first device. ”

But, as of today, when I look at my iPad, I get this message: “In Progress <zoom name>: Switch,” can I can no longer join the same meeting on my iPad and iPhone. And if I click on a zoom link for the meeting on my iPad while connected on my iPhone, then I am switched, instead of joining on two devices.

Did this change recently? Is Zoom support incorrect? Can this be fixed?

This is extremely irritating. I teach online, and use one device to present my image, and my iPad to use as a whiteboard. I don’t want to have to change this just because some techies decide they don’t want it to happen. Security? Really I’d be interested to know what the risk is.

Hello @Stephen Wilkinson,

I’m sorry for the late response.

Please update your Zoom app to the latest version on both devices.

Once you’re in a meeting and join from a second device, you should see a prompt to either join as a companion or transfer the session. Please select ‘Join as Companion.’

I often join on a second device as a Guest, which will still allow me to share documents, but my laptop remains as my host / signed-in device and I can control other functions from there.  I am unsure if there is any security risk logging in as a guest because I have been admitted to the general session by the host (me).  Just a suggestion to those experiencing an issue.  :)
