Question

My webcam mic is not longer recognized (but the camera is)

I have used a Logitec C920 webcam with built-in mic since 2020 connected to my Apple MacBook Air (2023) running the most recent version of Mac OS. Since last week, the Logitec camera connects just fine, but the mic is no longer recognized as an audio input. (My my iPhone is recognized along with the mic built into the MacBook.) Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?

    Hello @Jeverettlee,

Welcome to the Zoom Community! We’re glad to have you here.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check Mac System Preferences:
    • Go to System Settings (or System Preferences) > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
    • Make sure Zoom (and any other relevant apps) has permission to access the microphone.
    • Also, go to System Settings > Sound > Input and see if the Logitech C920 appears as an input device.
    1. Reconnect and Restart:
    • Unplug the Logitech C920, restart your Mac, and plug it back in.
    • Try connecting the webcam to a different USB port, or use a different USB adapter if you’re using one.
    1. Update Zoom and macOS:
    • Ensure you are running the latest version of Zoom and macOS, as updates may resolve compatibility issues.
    1. Test in Other Apps:
    • Open another app (like QuickTime or Voice Memos) and see if the C920’s microphone is recognized there. If not, the issue is likely system-wide, not Zoom-specific.
    1. Reset Mac’s Audio System:
    • Open Terminal and enter: sudo killall coreaudiod
    • This will restart the Mac’s audio system (you may need to enter your password).
    1. Check for Logitech Software:
    • If you have Logitech software installed (like Logi Tune or Logitech Camera Settings), update or reinstall it.
    1. Zoom Audio Settings:
    • In Zoom, go to Settings > Audio and check if the C920 microphone appears in the list of microphones.
    1. Try Another User Account:
    • Create a new user account on your Mac and see if the C920 mic is recognized there. This can help determine if the issue is user-specific.

If the microphone still does not appear, it may be a compatibility issue introduced by a recent macOS update, or a hardware issue with the webcam itself. For more details, see Zoom audio troubleshooting on Mac.

Thanks! I sure looks like a compatibility issue.
