Mouse cursor disappears while sharing screen

Hi, I’ve been having this issue with my mouse cursor for a month. It started happening after I updated my Windows version to Windows 11, but I’m not sure whether these events are connected or not.

When I’m sharing a PPT or Google Slides, which are the main content I usually share, everything works normally. However, whenever I need to transition to a new tab, such as Google Docs or Youtube, while still screen sharing, my mouse cursor completely disappears and I cannot do anything about it. It has been so frustrating, because I cannot click on anything, not even on “stop sharing”, and I just have to wait for it to be back. My students say they still see my mouse cursor as I’m moving it desperately trying to get its control back.

I have searched for a solution for this issue in this forum, but most of the results I got are from years and years ago, and none of the recommendations given solved my problem - such as updating Zoom’s version.

Can someone please help me? I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

HI @Luiza Oliveira -- Thank you for joining the Zoom Community and apologies for this late response.

This behavior can sometimes occur on Windows 11 due to changes in how the OS handles display drivers and hardware cursor rendering—especially after updates. Since your students can still see the cursor while you cannot, it suggests the cursor is being drawn correctly for the share stream but not locally by Windows or your display driver.

Here are a few steps that often resolve this:

  1. Update your graphics drivers – Go to your GPU manufacturer’s website (Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD) and install the latest Windows 11–compatible version.
  2. Disable “Pointer trails” (if enabled) – Go to Control Panel › Mouse › Pointer Options and make sure “Display pointer trails” is unchecked. This setting can cause rendering issues when screen sharing.
  3. Try switching between hardware and software rendering – In Zoom, under Settings › Share Screen › Advanced, toggle the “Use hardware acceleration for screen sharing” option. Restart Zoom and test again.
  4. Use “Share Screen › Screen” instead of “Window” – If you currently share individual application windows, switching to Entire Screen can eliminate cursor loss when switching apps.
  5. Restart Zoom and Windows after applying updates – Cursor rendering problems can persist until a full reboot.

If none of these steps fix it, please check whether this behavior still occurs in another Zoom meeting under a different Windows user account or after uninstalling/reinstalling Zoom completely (using the Zoom Clean Tool). That step helps confirm if the issue is specific to your Windows profile or the Zoom installation.

Hope this helps restore visibility to your mouse cursor while screen sharing!

Hi, I am sorry for my late response! First of all,  thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I have done all the steps suggested from 1 - 5 and I think the disappearing cursor occurances decreased, but are not over. Sometimes, it still happens. Now I need to do the other tests you recommended (trying a different account and reinstalling Zoom completely). I can get back to you aftwerwards again.

Thank you once again.

@hoodee23 @MGSR hi, I am sorry for my late response! First of all,  thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I have tried all the steps suggested from 1 - 5 and I think the disappearing cursor occurences have decreased, but the issue is not completely gone. Sometimes, it still happens. Now I need to do the other tests you recommended (trying a different account and reinstalling Zoom completely). They are my last hope! I can get back to you afterwards.

Thank you once again.
